Yeah, safety goggles would be a good idea. I had to replace one of the springs in mine a few weeks ago and they have some mad tension on them. Mine snapped after I closed the boot, I heard a loud thump and opened the boot to find the spring in two pieces. If I remember I will see if I can get some pics tommorow. The spring I used to replace mine was off a white car so it should be easier to trace where it goes in pictures.

You'se have springs to hold the lid up? Mine is a series of tensioned rods running under the parcel shelf I got the same problem. Shut my boot one day, heard massive thud. Open boot to find the end of the rod had snapped.

You feed in the hinge side first and get it seated properly and then try and lever the spring onto the bracket thats near the middle of the boot. You will need someone to hold the boot up for you, and watch your hands while trying to lever the spring into place.

VS commodores etc have gas struts in place of this spring system, right? How hard would that be to install into a VN? Surely it's a better system.

Gas struts would be heaps easier to fit, those springs are a pain in the arse.

But the VS boot has an enitrely different setup. Its not as simple as doing a bonnet gas strut setup, where you simply attach the gas struts.

is that using the factory remote? Mine only has one button, how do you open the boot with the remote. (not the cable remote next to the drivers seat surely?)
