    Default cutting springs - how much$ ?

    hey
not looking for any arguments here at all about cutting springs so please don't start them
getting vy ss 18's on the vp calais today and out of funds so going with the cut spring option
just wondering how much i should be expecting to pay at a mechanic for the job to be done....would imagine it'd be pretty cheap as it'd only be a 1/2 hour job if that?
but yer if anyone can give me a general idea on prices thatd be much appreciated
live in adelaide, glenelg area as well if anyone has any place to recommend locally
    cheers

There is no argument about cutting springs. ITS ILLEGAL. And for a very good reason too.

Because cutting the spring causes the car to bottom out all the time as the coils that have been removed are no longer holding the car up. Lowering springs are made out of stronger/thicker steel to stop this. Also a cut spring wont sit in the spring seats properly and can bounce out of the retaining seats while going over bumps.

You compromise the handling and braking of your car and the lives of everyone driving on the road with you. If you had a crash your insurance would be void and the police will throw the book at you.

Some guy you know with a welder might pop a few coils.

But not going on the argument side here..
When i first bought my car it had cut springs, Too me the biggest thing too stand out was bouncing it handled shit bounce bounce bounce through the roof almost it was so bouncy, When i got kings springs it handled much better much kinder on the body with much less bouncing, And no bottoming out.

Maybe you'll find a mechanic who'll cut springs, I doubt it though, because its illegal. Most mechanics value their livelihood too much to risk getting in shit over a $50 profit from cutting some retards springs.

There is this thing called duty of care. This is the reason why a mechanic wont do things like cut springs, fit mini spools or linelockers on road registered vehicles. Why not just pull them out & get someone like Industrial Springs to reset them to the height you want. Would be much cheaper & safer.

what a pisser.. as if a mechanic would do that.. that would be like asking an exhaust place to put a screw driver through your cat. just isn't going to happen..
just buy some springs.. would be much better.. check out ebay..there is second hand springs on there right now..

If you cant afford to do it properly, wait until you can. Otherwise, good luck finding a mechanic to do it for you!

Mechanics fix cars, they don't make them un-roadworthy..

No I wont bother arguing, because the next sentence describes you quite accurately. You are a **** smoker. And as we all know there is no point arguing with **** smokers. You come in here asking for advice on how to do something illegal and get all upset when we tell you what any sensible person would tell you. So in closing, **** you retard.

my 3 year old brother was diagnosed with down-syndrome two years ago...thankyou for deeply offending me....********, all I wanted was a simple answer...i realise i'm doing something a bit stupid but that is MY choice, not yours.
I appreciate your concern but just so you know the mechanic doing the job specialises in ferraris, porsches etc...mates dads mechanic...he has cut many-a-spring before

so to pandaman...please go read the rules of this forum and maybe think before you speak mate, thats straight out of line and pathetic coming from an adult

    cheers

hmm, a guy that specialises in ferraris cuts springs, lol, i wouldnt trust my $150,000 car with him.

if you had of done a quick search on cutting springs, you would have seen that not many people on this forum agree with it and that you'd get too many opposing replies to bother starting this thread.

if you want to know how much it will cost, ring your mates dads mechanic and ask, or ring a few other mechanics and ask them aswell.
