Default Sudden clunking noise in engine after fill up..

vn 91 bt1 190k's..... sudden clanking in the engine 500mtrs driving after putting fuel in...

i primed out a bit of fuel.. doesnt look like there water in it.....

clunking seems to be coming from the bottom half of the engine sorta like somethings come loose.... i wouldnt have a clue...

Just want to know if bad fuel would result in a serious engine problem like this..

there is still power in the motor just sounds like theres something loose in there being thrown around...

    time for a engine change???

it might not even be fuel related,
and i wouldn't fork out 4 a new engine till you know wats wrong.
It might only be a harmonic balancer or something.

yeah i dont think it fuel related. unless your tank was dead empty there would have been enough time for new fuel to even have been pumped through. i no this might sound stupid but cheak your altenator. sometimes when they go they sound like theres bits of steel flying around in the engine, it the bearing getting the shit ripped out of them, had it happen to mine.

    yeh cheers for your replies....

im really doubting its the fuel..

on the note of the alternator.. i dun think so... its comin from inside the engine...

harmonic balancer... hmm... wouldnt i be able to see by sight thats its rooted... i mean if its ###ed can u visusally see it unbalanced??

Yeah i knew it was a long shot but yeah. im thinking its not the harmonic balancer, u should prob dump the oil and check for any signs of metal shaving. if there is, then u might be in a spot of bother

my harmonic blancer shat it self, followed by engine mounts, followed by a high pitch noise from alternator, and now my gbox is screwed , cood be engine mounts, uni joints etc.

:remember a while back we had the same issues, noted mine down here for u : P:

well its lookin like a ###ed bearing or stuffed p/w steering pump

ran the engine with the belt off and the noise went. seems to be comin from the power steering pump which i just changed... gonna get it exchanged and hopfully that will be it....

changed the power steering pump to the stock one... no change...

got myself a s/h alternator.... no change....

definetely not coming from the water pump...

took off tensioner pulley.. bearing is fine....

one thing left that it may be the tensioner itself???

ok ppls.... need some advice asap...

Changed the alternator, and the tensioner.... still same shit....

took off water pump... it was fine

Now the weird thing is that when u run the engine withe belt off the noise goes away... which leads me to think its something connected ot the belt. ie. p/w steering pump, tensioner, air con but we've changed all these....except for air con which is fine...

only thing left is the harmonic balancer.... but y on earth would the noise disappear when the belt is off!!!! is the tension of the belt putting the balancer out of wack.... btw the balancer does have a bit of rubber missing from the sides but when it runs its pretty smooth....

    arghh this is getting fustrating.....

Well, with no belt on there wouldn't be any stress on the harmonic balancer, so it still could be the harmonic balancer causing your troubles.
    Yours Kindly,
