Hey there,
I have just installed 17 inch rims upgraded from the stock tyres that came with my VP Commodore. They are thicker in width (not sure of the exact dimensions) than my standard tyres and they worked perfectly fine on my mates VS. The problem is though I have just installed them and went for a drive and there appears to be a strong burning rubber smell coming from the front of the car, and it appears that it might be rubbing up against something. Is this common when new tyres are placed on the car?, would it do with the size of the suspension?
I'm also going to get his springs (that he bought and used with these wheels) installed as well and see if that eliminates the problem, otherwise I am clueless!
what size are the tyres? should say on the side of tyre, 235/45r17 is what it should look like.
most 17" tyres are usually a 235 profile and dont usually rub.
how low is the front at the moment and what rims are they? maybe theyre a weird offset and sit in too far.
is it happening both sides? can you see where on the tyre its scrubbing?
Yeah find out the offset of the rims and get a wheel alignment.
VS front springs are different to a VP as well, so only use his rear springs.
Also, I have 245 width 19" rims and I have no problems other than little clearance (5mm) to the spring seat... So your 17's should be fine.
Thanks for the replies guys.
The car hasn't been lowered and the springs in it are still stock, with its original factory tires. Tomorrow I will find all that wheel size info and maybe get a wheel alignment as well as my steering has been shuddering lately at high speeds.
the only place the tires could be rubbing is on the inside against the strut. what is the camber angle like. take it for a wheel alignment first.

i am sure you cant use ythe rear springs aswell due to IRS and solid state,
unless your vp is irs?
