    Default opinions on gauges

ok i have a few questions about gauges in VNs. firstly, what do you think are the most important gauges you would want in a VN? and secondly, where would you mount them?

at the moment im considering oil pressure, oil temp and boost(crs charger coming), and mounting them in the pocket under the cd player. what do you guys think?

a vacuum gauge can be handy if you know how to use them,

the 3 you listed sound good, some other handy ones are water temp, A/F ratio, and voltmeter (handy for big stereo users)

yeah a vacuum would be handy. my friends Vk has one standard on the dash.
a/f ratio gauges would be good, but theyre just too expensive for something i could probably build myself with some circuits and a few leds

Im going to put 2 new guages in my centre console (replacing whats already there).

Im going for A/F ratio and a vacuum guage. And im going to put an Apexi RSM under the cd player in that slot, flip style so it acts like a door.

Is there a page like above for all the benefits of water temp, oil temp and oil pressure?

i'd go with greenfoam on that, oil pressure/temp and vac/pressure. maybe one other to consider as well would trans temp. that sure is a lot of info from a vacuum gauge

as i said in another post, mounting under headunit, you have to take you eyes of the road to see it properly, i mounted mine on the pillar, and i can see it out the corner of my eye. Also most boost gauges also have a vacuum gauge too

Here in SA its illegal to mount guages on the pillar in case of an accident, it can be a projectile or something and can also hinder your view.

According to Transport SA, any aftermarket guages can only be placed to the left of the crash panel i think they called it (basically the cluster section of the dash....Between passenger and driver) and it mustn't obstruct your view in any way. Thats why my tacho is where it is and thats why my guages are where they are. In the slot under the cd player is also obviously legal.

pffft... Point is theres a way to have guages legally, without any real extra cost. If there was a no cost way to make 19's legal, I would take that option.

well i just finished doing my mates last weekend, was easy, well for me anyway, he only got water temp, oil pressure and next week he gettign vacuum, pods are pretty easy to put in, mine will be custom made and all fibreglassed on top of my cd player, which is where my centre vents are, i think in the centre up top is easier to see , cos at the moment i have to look down and take my eys off the road, i will post up pics when they in there,

    cheers, nick

i am having oil pressure, boost/vac, fuel pressure, nos pressure and maybe if i buy a gauge for it water pressure for the water injection. but i am not really too worried about that one. for the cost it really isn't worth it..

Thats amazing how many engine problems you can diagnose with a vac guage. I always thought you used it for fuel economy and thats it. You learn something new every day.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

lol shush... It aint my fault Holden put the wiring loom there!

I accidentally drilled through the wiring loom re-fitting my tacho when I got off defect earlier this year. Stuffed my central locking and cost heaps to get it fixed.
