Default where have you mounted gauges

i was wondering if anyone could show me pictures of where they have mounted small gauges. i have thought of mounting my two 2 inch gauges where the ash tray is. as i am a non smoker it never gets used, so i don't need it.. i have a couple of 1.5 inch gauges (nitrous and fuel pressure) and i was thinking i might mount them under stereo. the braided lines only reach to about there too. and i woudln't be able to put them where the ash tray is because of the adaptor from the gauge to the braided line.. it would make the whole gauge too long to go there.
i had thought of putting them on the a pillar but i would have to buy cups then and i am about sick of spending money on my car. i have gone well over what i wanted to spend.. and those pillar mounts ya can buy suck and they block too much vision and look ungly..
    any ideas welcome.
    thanks..

I have a 2" boost gauge in a gauge cup stuck to the top of my dash. its within immediate glancing distance, as it should be... I've been told by numerous people i'll get done for having it there but I have had the advice straight from the horses mouth that its perfectly legal.

note also that for safety reasons you MUST NOT have fuel or oil pressure lines running inside the cabin... this is defectable also.

I will try and remember to post some photos this afternoon.

That would be illegal my friend. Cant have it mounted in your field of vision as its a distraction. I got warned for where my tacho was mounted in my VR, on the A piller.

Yet my old falcon with the tacho mounted in a very similar place to that passed two roadworthies. Hmmm, methinks there are some people out there who are happy to let common sense ride. I'm going to consult the local mechanic as to whether he'll pass the VN if I fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge. If so I'll fit it now, if not I'll fit it after rego, and as long as I'm careful routing the capillary I'll bet it doesn't get picked once by the boys in blue.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

It does depend on the cop I think. I have had it mounted in the same place in two cars and over all the times i've been pulled up (over two cars say around 10 times) only one has said anything.

i know it is illegal to have fluid coming into you cabin to a gauge, but i am not too worried about that. i live in a small country town and try not to drive like too much of a dikkhead so i don't get pulled up by the cops at all.. also i am using good braided lines so i won't have any leaks.

I dont even care anymore. Untill i get defected anyway. But i have been pulled over for heaps of breath tests and stuff and they havnt said anything. YET.

Airstrike does that make my sat nav illegal also?

Its a friggin stupid law and I think a cop would have to be an ass to book you for it... I have never been pulled over in my entire driving life for ANY reason (even rbt) and if I did I would be polite and friendly with the officer so I will leave it there unless an officer tells me it has to go.

Thousands of people (grannies included) across Australia have sat nav stuck to their windscreen, so does that make them all dirty dirty law breakers?

the law can be frustrating sometimes

EDIT: oh and another thing... my rear view mirror actually blocks my view all the time whereas my gauge and sat nav thing never do... I'm quite tall u see.

Correct mate they are illegal mounted there. Problem is with the cops they don't enforce the full extent of the law, only the parts they want to.
Case in point when on my VR I had my 18's on the front and stockies on the back because one of the wheels was buckled I used to get pulled up all the time and hassled. Once I was pulled up and asked why it was like that and explained it to him, he said if I couldn't afford the repairs I should have just stockies on. Yet one of my old mans mates ran stockies on the back of his VZ R8 for like 3 months cause he couldn't afford the tires (19's) and when he told the office this he agreed and they had a conversation about interest rates for 10 minutes. So after all my babble what i'm trying to say is you will be hit with the good ol' hoon brush.

Yep. You cant use a gauge holder that has a more reflective surface then the bright work on the car, and since the last car with chrome bumpers was a VH anything after needs a painted or non reflective finish. My mate got canarried for his chrome cups on his VQ.
