Default car getting hot when i slow down or stop??

hi, hopefully someone can help me out?? my VP is heating up when i get stuck in traffic and have to either come to a stop or slow down??? it done this once to me once before and it was because me thermo fan wasn't coming in when it was supposed to but i just ran it at idle for about 15 minutes and my thermo cut in... so i have no idea what to check next i replaced the thermostat about 2 months ago when i was having the problems with the thermo fan so i don't think it's that, if anyone has any suggestions i'd really appreciate it... thanks

my VP used to do the same thing, except the thermo fan was cranking, it'd just keep climbing.

Turned out to be thermostat and partially blocked radiator.

Radiator re-core, thermostat, coolant, radiator cap = $220. Small price to pay for peace of mind. Haven't had a hassle since.

it gets really hot if i let it it'd definately boil but i don't let it get that hot if it starts heating up i make a dash for the nearest spot i can stop and switch it off till it cools down...i replaced the radiator about 2 and a half maybe 3 years ago after it exploded on a boiling hot day... how long do they usually last???

My temp was rising pretty high in hot weather, would always stay around the half way mark and the thermo fan working constantly. Just this week I change the thermostat, but got one that opens earlier (180??), now my temp doesnt doesnt go over 1/4 and max it will reach (traffic and hot weather) is just below half which the thermo fan fixes.

My VN used to run quite cool, until i had my inlet manifold replaced along with the thermostat. They replaced the coolant with anti boil and distilled water and i think its crap compared to the tectaloy 90 that was in there.

sounds like a full flush is in order, run the cooler thermostat 180 degrees instead of the 196 degrees that is standard.
