I have a VP commodore 6 cyclinder and recently my water pump ****ed up to an extene that water pours straight throguh it, but before this happened my engine temp has been above average (never above 3/4 usualy about 1/2) and now my oil flow light is on about 15% of the time.
there is no blown gaskets or water mixed with the oil.
is my engine gone? or if i go ahead and replace my water pump do you think id be ok? thx.
is it losing oil??? could be a filter seal or something like that
Change water pump, change oil sensor, check pipes coming out of rocket cover/s for blockage, check for sludge inside rocket cover/s, if so sludge removal. Change your oil filter/oil.
it is an oil pressure light. your oil pick up could be full of crap and you might not be getting the right amount of oil through your motor. you could try changing your oil pressure switch like stmcomms said. but fair chance it is you oil pick up is blocked.
it could also be your oil pump or your bearings could be buggered.. if ya don't know much about mechanicals get a mate or someone who knows a bit about cars. or you could end up with a huge mechanic bill and still have an old worn motor. i just sold a v6 to a bloke whos oil light was coming on. it turned out it was cheaper to pay for my motor and pay a mechanic to put it in rather than pulling the sump off and finding the problem...
hmmm someone told em that driving a VP holden with the temp gage on 50% too 75% for any longer then a week bad. how long do you need to be dirving it at that Temp before it cooks?
timing case cover houses the oil pump, if seals gone will not be holding pressure in the oil system but leaking back to block, to remove any doubt, and ensure no water loss, replace the timing cover, checking oil seals(replace as cheap) in the pump which is to be honest idiot proof, you cant get it wrong or damage it, i know cause i'm looking t mine now
or if the check valve in the oil pump isn't seating properly it will bypass everything
