u cant get defected for an aftermarket steering wheel unless its flat bottomed or something, like a straight line on it...instead of a pure round circle
If you do things righ people wont know you have done anything at all...
You can go up to a VS steering wheel only, anything newer wont fit on your car.
No... Read the ADR's and contact your local compliance centre.
There are only TWO steering wheel brands that are ADR Approved. These are Momo and Isotta. And only some of these are ADR approved.
According to ADR 10 I believe it is, there is an ECR number or something stamped on the back of all ADR approved wheels. You MUST have this for it to be legal. These are found on MOST Momo wheels and the legal Isotta wheels also come with paperwork to show their legality.
so the steering wheels that supercheap and autobahn sell that arnt momo or isotta arnt legal for your car?
Yes, they are illegal, there is also a size limit, this site here http://www.sasuspension.com.au/IB44-...%20Version.pdf will tell you what size steering wheel is legal on your car, as in minimum diameter, how much you can tow with your car, and how low it can go.
As for steering wheels, i wouldnt be buying a NON-ADR complied wheel in anyway whatsoever. Ive seen what happens to them in accidents and wouldnt trust them, i have one hanging on my wall as a reminder to me and all my mates to not buy them. If you want a sports wheel, go spend the cash and get a complied one, the cheap and nasties, are exactly that, cheap nasty and dengerous
Ive got a super cheap steering wheel. The police have never said a thing.
Australia. Love it or leave it
ok thanks every one, this wheel is an autotechnica with a flat bottom so i best be takin it off soon.
Theres always somebody that has to say this sorta thing.
"hey I have no idea of the law, have not read the legislation but hey the cops havent said anything so it must be legal and/or ok". It is not legal I assure you. Take it from somebody that has been defected twice for an illegal steering wheel.
And yes Supercheap and Repco and Sprint etc. sell illegal steering wheels, just ask them and they will tell you.
There is a reason why Isotta wheels are generally $350+ and Momo are $400+ unlike the dirty cheap wheels you can find at Supercheap Auto etc.
What about a vn/p/r hsv wheel?
what was quoted there is wrong. almost all aftermarket wheels can be defected cause u need to have padding in the center of the wheel. Chrome centers and wood grain wheels are un road worthy because in an accident, they will do more damage to ur skull then the stock one. and of u dont have the padding in the middle of a stock wheel is also un rd worthy.
Hey guys I have a sports wheels that ain't on strait and I caint take it off coz the thread is stripped will I need a new steering colum or is there an easy another way to rethread it ?
could use a die nut to clean up the thread. but u can also just use the shaft from another column.
