    Default Misfire at idle

Ok, i've been having problems with my car idling since I got it, but it's got to the stage where i'm desperate to sort it out.

It has a really annoying misfire all the time when it's idling, but it disappears almost as soon as I touch the throttle, and on some days it's a lot more noticeable than others. Most of the time it will almost stall when I put it into gear from park or neutral.

I've changed things like the injectors, spark plugs, HT leads, fuel pressure regulator and O2 sensor and cleaned out the throttle body and IAC valve. Doing these things helped but only for a short time. It always goes back to how it was within a few days. Also using a lot of fuel but I don't know if that's related.

Any suggestions? It's driving me mad!!

I'm just hoping it's NOT water going into the cylinders! It might be a possibility though since I seem to be losing a small amount of water somewhere.

Heavy fuel usage can be the temp. sensor. It may think the car is cold and rich up the mixture. Is the thermostat opening?

Yeah, the thermostat is opening ok. Could the temp sensor also screw up the idle?

if you want to see if there is water getting into the cylinders- buy some chemiweld, use as per instructions, then if the problem no longer persists, you know what...

Another thing to try is getting an oil test- should show up excessive water. About $35 for the test

have you changed the fuel filter? also check for vacuum leaks as they can cause excessive usage. also check the coils/dfi module as the engine will still run even if one of these is only marginally servicable. maybe try a compression test to see if you have a problem there maybe

I'll try to get hold of a compression tester and do that. What do I need to do to test the DFI module and coil packs? Never had a car with coil packs before so it's a bit of a learning process for me!

I've not got round to doing the fuel filter yet.

If its a definate miss then i would be steering towards an electrical fault like coilpack/dfi.

Guessing its one of the wires coming out of the plug?
