hi i was just on the ssv site and they got a efi performance chip for a vn commodore auto & manual, and it says EFI PERFORMANCE CHIP FOR VN & VP COMMODORE V6 AUTO & MANUAL . SOLD ON AN EXCHANGE BASIS. IMPROVES POWER OUTPUT FROM 125KW TO 138KW & TORQUE FROM 292 NM TO 311 NM.my commy is stock except for a pod and taken a box of the muffler, would i get much kw out of the chip ?
13kw gain from changing just the memcal sounds a bit rich for me. you may get 5 or 6kw from having an optimised chip but i wouldn't wxpect 13kw. greenfoam is best to answer this question as he's probably with what you can get out of a chip on a stock engine

Yeah you can't gain much from a stock VN, but if you can get the fuel ratios and spark just right down low you can improve the launch which will give you a much faster time. The reason my VN was fastish is beacuse it is absolutly a rocket in the first 5 meters even with the stock chip, it just had something right going on down low. On a series one VN you can gain a few kw thoughout the rev range and quite a bit more torque down low.
With the series 2 and VP you can gain more, just because you have a more mild tune to start with, you can bring them back up and beyond the VN series one and it's the same story with the VR, bringing them up past the VN so you have a fair bit to gain in the VR's.
In the end it all depends on how much spare the factory left in the tune, they had the series one V6 fairly cranking so there's not much left. With the 5 litre and even more so with the Gen III they had power to spare and came out of the factory tuned far under what they are capable of. Also all production cars are slightly different when new and alot different when oldso some cars gain heaps more than others
i think i seen this seller...the gain is with conjunction with a free flowing exhaust and cai so the power gain makes more sense
your better off downloading a tune off the net, and buying a eprom burner... preset tunes dosnt really work because not every car is the same (working order) ive found some of foams tunes have made my car go faster/slower at certian points, as my vn is diffrent to his vn... i ran a 15.72 tonight with a stocker on and a 16.12 on a custom tune, hit rev limiter both runs comming outta second.... but im aiming to have my car down in the 13s in a few months
I've never run that tune in my car, it's from Adams calais (114rwkw) it had 3 runs on the dyno to get it peaked for his car but needs 98 octane and the limiter is set to 5800 which is waaaaaaay too late of a shift in a stock VN it's only set that high just in case, not a sign to shift gears:P because by then you have been making no power for half a second or so, the stock limiter is 5400. Try the SV3800 tune or something a little more mild untill you figure out how to adjust it to suit your car and shift at 5000-5200 and you will run a 15.5 I reckon
