Just bought an oil pressure guage today, and just wondering with the installation.. Is the oil pressure sender unit that it comes with neccesery? Or am I able to tap into a wire somewhere else to get the signal for it?
Cheers, Gaz
you need the sender. it will not work with out it. all i have done is got a t-piece and i still have the oil light incase the oil gauge dies. looking straight under the bonnet you will see there is room on the drivers side for the oil light switch. so the oil light switch will be horizontal then yuou can put the oil pressure sender pointing up. that is how i have done it. i also have another pitting on the right for oil to my turbo. there is plenty of room..
I'v also seen adapters that screw in-between the oil filter with multiple fittings for various purposes. take a look on the SPECO-METER website.
yeah ya need one of them.. usually the senders are 1/8 npt and i think v6's a need 1/4.. not sure about the 1/4 bit but i know it is bigger.. i have a couple of those converters here in my box of tricks..
gday
where could i get the t peice oil adapter things?
does anyone have any pics?
or links?
cheers.
take a look on this page right down the bottom. else just find out the correct npt of the fittings needed for the t-piece and your local auto-parts store should be able to order one in for you.
hydraulic places will have the stuff you need. but all that crap is so expensive.. i reckon brass may be the cheapest.. could be wrong though..
i was lucky enough to find a t-piece here at home in a box of fittings.
547-61:
1/4" NPT (A) x 1/4" NPT (B)
x 1/8" NPT (C)
that fitting SHOULD be right for you.. that is if the oils pressure sender is 1/8, whihc i would say it is..
just make sure there will be enough room. with that fitting it will screw in upright, the the guage sender will sit horizontal and the light switch will sit on top of the fitting sitting upright. there should be enough wiring for that..
