Hi
I have a VP wagon and a problem with the immobiliser. No problems until it rains when i stop the car after driving in the rain and try to start the car i am unable to start the car until after several hours later when it is all good. I have replaced the battery in keyfob. Its obviously rain getting into something and when it drys out its Ok. Can someone either advise how i can disconnect the imobiliser completely or tell me where to locate it so i can hopefully seal it from the rain which i guess is getting in somewhere to stop the immobiliser working.
I have just been out in the rain and the car wont start, this is the 3rd time its happened and everytime when its raining. Lucky it got me home this time.
Thanks Steve.
assuming it's a factory immobiliser, there's a keyhole in the passenger side doorjam, if you have a key switch it to off/dissengage/whatever, and the immobiliser won't kick in.
if you don't have a key, there are still (i think) things you can do. do a search, there's stacks of immobiliser Q&A on these forums.
my $0.02:
i wouldn't run your commie for long without an immobiliser, but. if anything think about taking out the faulty one and getting an aftermarket upgraded system.
also, i should point it out that the keyhole i mentioned is for a special immobiliser key, not the ignition key.
Thanks for the quick reply. So thats what that key is for?
Yes it worked a treat, now i can get the car going when its raining.
Considering that the VT commodore heads the list of most stolen car in SA, i wouldnt rely too much on the factory immobiliser.
Dont like my driving? Get off the sidewalk!
