i was just wondering if you really need turbo for the blow off valve to make that sound on a non turbo car.. Lol.
you can buy speakers that do it
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

you do, not enough power to make the "PSSSSSST" noise, personally, i hate blow off valves, terrible noise... terrible...
my brothers evo has a stock BOV, it sounds good... but i hate the ricey loud farty ones on turboed suzukis
We'll if you were really keen on having a real BOV fitted to your car and discharging on gear changes you could do this, (assuming it's a manual, if it's an auto a fake BOV would become even more wang then usual, and it would be difficult to get it working as it would on an turbo auto)
-Fit an air compressor of some description, (12V electric would be easiest) with a smallish (but not too small) tank.
-modify the trigger type nozzle that came with the compressor to attach to an adjustable discharge pressure BOV. If you just want the sound you can just buggerise the nozzle till it makes a nice noise and save money by not having to purchase the BOV.
-mount that trigger type nozzle and BOV assembly on a clear spot on the firewall, run some sort of linkage, either a rod or a second cable from your clutch pedal through the firewall (remembering to either use an existing hole or a properly sealed new hole to keep it at least almost legal) to actuate the trigger.
-Fire up the compressor and play with various discharge pressure settings until you find the best balance between noise and air usage, remembering that the cheap 12V compressor is not gonna fill that tank real quick so ya can't use too much air.
I estimate that with some smart second hand purchasing and a bit of elbow grease this mod could be completed for under $200 and half a days easy work. I also estimate that should you install this mod and any car enthusiast realises it is fake, you will get the shit kicked out of you, or if they're as nice as me they'll just laugh. It would however be close to the ultimate in rice accessories and would likely be worthy of top gears "carbage".
All in all my reccomendation is that you spend any money you would consider putting towards this mod on beer instead. But then again I say that about most money. This has gotta be the most worthless post I have ever made, I feel so degraded I think I might cry.![]()

yeah, big deisel turbo's are tuff. but i don't really understand all this ricer crap you people go an about.. id ya don't want to be a ricer, get nrid of your body kit., get rid of your turbo. get rid of anything good.
i gotta say i do hate people putting fake turbo wistle's and fake BOV's etc. that shits me. but all the good stuff. that is not rice stuff. only the fake..
im not a ricer well i like rice cars LoL, yea but i just like turbo everyone has there interests i like v8s and stuff but its not a v8 so yea lol..
LOL
if you were that keen there are things you buy from autobarn that you put into your exhaust and it builds up pressure then relizes it lol
not enuff power for a bov haahaha

It's not to do with the power in any way. Daihatsu used to make a 1 litre turbo version of their Charade (the GTti) and that had about half the power of a V6 Commodore, but you can put a BOV on that if you really want to.
People talking about the sound of turbo diesels reminded me of the BMW 3 series that I saw last year at a Hillclimb in England. The turbo whistle on it as it went up the hill was unbelievable and it was a very quick car too.
all a blow off valve does is releases the air built up in your intake when the throttle is shut. as long as you have a turbo or supercharger to create some sort of boost a bov will work
this is the funniest thread i have ever read. in my whole life. if you like turbo cars, then buy one. if you dont like turbo cars, then look the other way. simple.
yeh i agree a BOV in a n/a car is a waste of time and would be frowned upon by any car enthusiests... sorry just plain stupid
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
not sure if this is the same thing as what was said, but you could always get a turbo whistler of ebay.
I was doing some work in Forrest yesterday (snob suburb in Canberra) saw a couple of X5's with the 3 litre TD 6, it does sound very grunty. Weird to hear an expensive luxo barge cruise past sounding like a beefed up hilux, kinda nice though.
The exhaust whistler will recreate the turbo whine, this is a good suggestion. It'd be fairly easy to make one of these as well, out of an old computer power supply fan and some sheet metal. In conjunction with my previous method for installing a BOV, this mod will help any wannabe turbo driver reach the pinnacle of useless modifications.

lolll, im not desprite in havin a bov, i just wanted to know if it would work that is it.
Well if you just stuck one on your inlet ductwork then no, it wouldn't work in the manner that it's supposed to. It needs higher than atmospheric pressures. It's possible to rig up something dodgy like what I described earlier, but if your not desperate for it then I'd say spend the cash on something to make it go faster, stop faster, look faster etc instead. Or beer. It'd be pretty unique if you rigged up an actual BOV with a compressor, there are plenty of tools out there who use those little speaker fake things, but setting up a real one would show some serious commitment.

what the hell are u on about...
Ah most VL turbo's dont have bov's. Are you talking about dose?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yFoxd0Bd-A
ok first off yes u need a turbo the noise that the bov makes is a sudden release of excess air pressure in the pipes. it is there to reduce turbo lag and boost creep. a na engine has no were to mount it to produce enough pressure or for it to work properly. secondly there are 2 types of bovs plum back and vent to atmosphere every stock turboed car has a bov but most come from the factory with plum back bovs so when it should make the loud woooosh noise it is directed bak into the induction piping pressurizing it once again. the noise in the video is called turbo flutter it is the sound of the turbo slowing down a fraction and the pressurized air back escaping back through the inlet wheel creating the chopping sound or turbo flutter.
a plum back bov is set up to "plum back" the unused pressurized air into the intercooler piping just after the turbo.
the reason that vent to atm. bovs are used more often is for the noise but they are illegal on the street.
thats pretty much everything
