since I've had my tranny fixed I've noticed the diff has started making a clunking noise but only when I do a hard take off only, when I first heard it I thought it was just the tyres losin grip a bit but now it's getting more noticable that it's not the tyres. What does this sound mean and how much $$$ am I up for this time![]()
and whats the cheapest but decent way of fixing it? I just bloody spent $1400 on the tranny
I think the tranny has to much power now for the poor ol diff

it means your diff is going on holiday, hahah make the most of it, alot of the time they spin up better at this stage
id wait till it gets real bad then just do buy another rear end - cheap frm a wrecker and easy as to repace the whole rear, like a 40 minute job if you got the right tools
Japanese scientists have created a camera with such speed that they now can photograph a woman with her mouth shut!
yeh i remember back in the day when my old vl done this... couple of weeks later and a bit more flogging the diff blew... so i bought another one and spooled it... no more problems, well cept a broken axel about one every 6-8 months
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
yeah was thinkin of buyin one from the wreckers but being a V8 they're not easy to come by in W/A. what would be a good price for a second hand one?
I told hubby when I get another one I'm gonna go out and do the bigest burnout lol I've never been game to do a decent one as I'm scared I'll stuff sommik elseall the arse end bushes need replacing anyway so would be a good time to do all that too while it's out hey?
I wanna get a V8 calais wreck so I can fix all the parts I need before they brake so when I need to replace sommik I've already got it
but it's always the same ol setback bloody $$$$$
or lack of

hmm not sure bout price, never had to replace my vp v8 diff... but if you find a bit o cash you can get an lsd center for around the 600 mark, there is no need for a whole new diff... but replacing the rear bushes would be a good idea, it will feel alot tighter and better to drive

we brought it off a relly and she treated it like a baby and never flogged it but apparently they young guy that had it before absolutly flogged the gutz outa it, so it was bound to happen sooner or later![]()

are you sure the clunking isnt just the bushes needing replacing, (its a common problem that chicks need a tighter rear end!)
nothing like making sure the ass end is nice and tight, it's always better with a firm ride. do those bushes first. that might just fix your problems.

also front bushes were replaced not long ago, and if it were the rear bushes making that noise wouldn't it only do it once? this does it 3 to 4 times in a row. if that makes sense![]()
bwhahahaha u misunderstood out dirty minds... it ok it would have nothing to do with ur front bushes... is it more of a thud noise or a tinny clunck like maybe center bearing or uni joints??

hang on i think i know what u mean like when u plant it from a stand still position it goes clunk, clunk, clunk?? proberly ur ring gear slipping on ur tailshaft pinion

I had a similar problem with a clonking noise from the back on a hard take off.
Turned out the exaust was hitting some part of the suspension (torsion bar or something the mechanic said, I dunno im not technical)when it compressed past a point, also caused a bit of vibration through the car.
checking for this problem was as easy as getting the car over a pit and having someone rock it from side to side

yep thats it it's a bit more of a chunky clunk IYKWIM hahaha I think I understood your minds perfectly lol my hubby thinks exactly the same![]()
when it goes clunk you can sorta feel sommik slipping, first few times it happened I refused to beleive the worse and thought it was the tyres slipping on the white line lol gotta face reality sometime butI reckon it's cause I fixed the tranny the diff got jelous an wants to be fixed too

yeh well my old vl done that a few times and i backed off straight away, i knew what it was but it was rare for it to do it, i always used to launce it pretty hard but

that 3 or 4 times in a row is for each gear change? My diff does that on braking, not acceleration!
