    Default vq auto to manual

    hey all

this may have been asked many times but i cant find the information im looking for. last night i lost 3rd and 4th bands in my auto and was considering rebuilding it with a shiftkit and small stall converter but realised manual is cheaper. so my question is what do i need for conversion? what model boxes will fit? say vr, vs, vn or vp manual? the car is a vq v8 by the way.
thanks for looking any help appreciated.

    cheers
    rohan

pedel box, tail shaift, gearbox and bellhousing, clutch cable. ya gotta drill out the rivits for the shifter and get a manual section for there. then either get another console or get a gear stick boot made. can't think of anything at the moment

defa has most of it there.

Finding a console is the hardest thing you'll encounter. I had the cut up auto one for a month before i found a HSV console.

With the tail shaft, you should be able to use the back half of your tailshaft, and bolt it to the front half from the gearbox you get.

Just for info, my trans did the same as yours, no D or [D], which is why i changed to manual.

The kit i got was from a VN SS.

Console is a VS HSV one (assuming you have leather, if not, will be easier finding one)

As far as i'm aware, the boxes are the same VN-VS series I (i think series II use Getrag with hydrolic clutch)

it should because it being a t5..... so a vr should by what ive read. i know they used the getrag in the vs but dont know if it started from series 1 or 2 or what ever..... so im guessing it should work but get more people to comment

the only thing that might be trouble is if the gearbox crossmember for a manual can be put on a stato and the length of the tailshaft everything else is the same

He could possibly use a VN wagon manual x member, as they are the same wheel base.

Not sure if theres any difference.

fair chance there wouldn't be any difference. it should only be the back bit of the tail shaft that is longer. but i could be wrong..

he can still use his back half of the tail shaft. i did that with my VK.

the xmember is what i didn't think would fit, but you saying it made me realise a wagon one should be identical being long wheel base also

alright the gearbox is in tailshaft is in starter pedal box is in. now i have run into a little problem.

im chasing the surround that pop rivets onto the tunnel for the shifer. now my question is are vn to vs all running the same surround?

also looking at the centre console and how vq's have a single peice trim instead of two peice. is there anyway that i can change my centre concole and trimming to that of a vn manual?

    cheers

You'll have to drill one out of another car (VN/VP, not sure about VR/S so i wont say)

i told you you'd have that trouble. You could get a HSV insert like i did.

ya might have to get a gear boot made up for your console.
you will have to drill out the auto shifter and get a manual piece and pop rivit or screw it in.. i would be thinking vn-vs would be the same for that bit. ring a few wreckers to get one.. or sometimes on ebay there is the odd one on there..

yea i found out about the manual piece that pop rivets to the car tonight.

i like the idea stealthy but a mate has an a1 manual vn centre console that i can get cheap so i was wondering if it would fit straight in?

you need the bits for your window switches though.. and it just wouldn't look right.. i would just get the hsv insert or get a boot made up.. woudn't cost that much..
