Default 6x9's in the parcel shelf....

Ok, it's getting to the stage where Ruby will be getting a stereo system put in some time in the very near future.

I want to put 6x9's in the parcel shelf, but I will be getting donor shelf, just incase I sell Ruby and take the stereo equipment out of her. That way I still have the original parcel shelf to put back in so I don't have huge holes everywhere.

What I want to know is, I've heard it's illegal to cut holes in the parcel shelf. Now, I don't like the idea of spacers, as I think they just look horrible. Is there any way I can cut my holes, and keep it legal?

    Cheers guys....

    Spacers spacers spacers

They only need to be about a cm high and just carpet them so they look exactly like the parcel shelf.

Well, I had spacers before when I had the 6x9's in the white VN. (I'm going to be using the same speakers) and they had spacers, and the spacers weren't big enough, and they were about 4-5 cms high...

Does that mean that it is legal to cut holes in the parcel shelf?

All you got was the stock 4 inch in the dash? Ouch

Most VN's either had the 6 inch speakers in the rear or they had the pre-cut holes I think.

Do i have to do it from the underneath? Punch the holes I mean. I never really even thought that there'd be pre cut holes, coz it never had speakers standard.

i just go a rubber mellet and hit next to 1 of the dabs, and that came off then i grabbed it and swiveled it around until the other dab came off and you should have a round piece of metal in your hand if u look in the boot... on the metal, you will see that it has 2 solder dabs holding it
    hope that makes sense

I s'pose it cant be too hard to figure out, especially because I'll have a parcel shelf not in the car to do it on.

Thats what I've been thinking. But I'd rather the speakers as flush with the parcel shelf as I can get them....

i used the holes already in the metal shelf and couldnt manage to get the speaker grills on and some minor modifications with the speakers, had to cut some of the structure because it wuldnt sit in the hole. 6x9's are a bit of a headache actually without pods/spacers

Hahaha, oh well, I'll see what i can do when I put them in. I might give in to little spacers. Little ones....

you can buy molded speaker pods in 6" split form and 6X9 form they are relatively cheap from sprints etc. they wrapped grey vynal there very shallow but still allow for the speakers to be mounted providing u can get those hole knocked out

I got 6x9s in my VN without any spacers or modification to the parcel shelf.

All i did was put them on an angle and kind of coax them into the corner of the shelf, so that the magnet sits where the old speaker used to be.
Looks fine, works great, no cutting, and a bonus was that if you twist them around they will actually jam in there tight and you wont even need to screw them in, haha.
