    Default Crank Angle Sensors headache!

Been having trouble with the CAS in my VN so I bought a new one $40 (nice) and now dont know which way to go about replacing the stuffed sensor. I've heard backyarders saying I'll need an alignment tool! and that I'll have to remove the harmonic then replace the nut $70...can anyone give me a clue on how to replace this little mofo..Thanks in advance.

when i did mine. i undid the bolt on the balancer and pulled the balancer off then unbolted the CAS. bolted the new one on, then put the balancer back on and the old bolt. never had any trouble since.

yeah same as defa said, except when i did mine i got a feeler gauge and measure .5mm between the outer sensor and the balancer or something like that, but yeah just get the balancer off put the old bolt back on, dont need to buy anything new other than the CAS once you do it once its easy as

    cheers, nick

serious. cause the belt runs around the balancer and when you take it off its easier if you have the belt off. (well i thought so)

Default I learnt the hard way

    Hey man

I have learnt about the CAS the hard way, but to answer you question you have to undo the pulley nut (I used a long cresent and put it on the nut so the cresent was against the body of my car, gave it a little flick of the motor and it is undone) remove the pulley (might have to use a pulley puller) once pulley is off remove the existing CAS and repleace with new one, once it is all done up put the pulley back on do it up and before you start your vehicle turn the pulley and feel the CAS to make sure none of the teeth are making contact with the CAS, if no contact start you car and you away.
Note: On the CAS you can udjust the little black sensor and this adjusts your timing, revs ect - don't touch it, I udjusted mine and my car run really rough and wouldn't rev over 4000rpms, I adjusted it one click and it was sweet. By the way the guy who said he changed his CAS by removing the belt is misinformed, you can't remove the sensor without removing the pulley!

ok well first you remove the drive belt, then remove balancer, then the sensor, then the put new one back on and put the balancer and bolt back on do it up tightcheck to make sure sensor not touching balancer teeth, put the belt back on and done,

i also found it easier to remove the thermo fan first, heaps more room
