    Default tail shaft weight?

last week i hoped into my car and put it in first and then snap i looked under my car and there was a cylider piece of metal dangling on my tail shaft, i found out it was a weight to centre the pull or some bullshiz and put it back in its position (for tempoaray driving) and drove home, i went down to the service centre and they said i need a whole new tail shaft but i dont know coz the weight was only held on by some measly foam sticky tabs LOL, so im gonna try re stick it untill i get my new tailshaft which is being shipped in coz no one has a 5 speed man tailshaft for a vn, what do u guys reckon?

A loose\missing balance weight wont stop you getting reverse. Seems your gearbox might be a little rooted. You say its a manual, as there are no synchros on the reverse gearset, have you tried selecting first, then reverse as a way to slow the box down in order for it to engage smoothly?

My 5sp box sometimes doesnt go into reverse. When it does this i just put it in another gear then it ussaly slides into reverse.
