here's a really useful post made by someone else.

    Requesting help from VT/VX owners

it rates difficulty and expense on each mod, CAI and a chip are good for a beginner, extractors would be the best after that.

Thanks for that, are there any DIY instructions on how to have a better air induction?

yeah if you go into the how to section, there's a howto on installing a CAI most forum members use VS CAI's i think, a couple have SS induction ones.

holden sell CAI ones for pretty cheap, mine came to about 70 or 80 bucks i think.

you can buy a new air box bottom, or cut the one you have now.

I was thinking of removing my bellmouth.

My only question is, over time will there be any detrimental effects on the engine because one end of the engine runs slightly leaner then the other? I'm running CAI and K&N too, I'm also told this tends to help with any fuel issues.

look at it this way, us series 1 owners dont have the bellmouth from the factory and there still going strong 16 years later, i think it was more a to fix the rough idle than anything else, but i dont know if its just me but my idle isnt really rough at all.

Yeah its purely to try and smooth the Buick out... No detrimental effects at all on the cylinders that may or may not run leaner than the rest.

The bellmouth was to stop the savage wheel spin for the oldies when leaving the lights. (street commodore articale I read when getting new tyres). The engine put out toooo much torque down low and spun up with the skinny 185 tyres.

Nah, street commodores can shove that article

It was to smooth out the idle. It makes no major difference to the low down torque.

There were 2 major issues Holden wanted to correct for the Series 2.... The rough idle and the the issue with wheel spin and old ladies etc. with the Series 1 was corrected by tune, cam profile and even the exhaust manifolds made a difference. Plus the hundred other overall changes they made to the series 2 engine.

The roughness of the buick was still being corrected with the VR, and then again with the Ecotec.

Cool, thanks for clarifying. I thought it'd just be for idling, as there is more induction while the throttle is under load and therefore more air entering the manifold. Removing any restriction can't hurt.

    take your puny v6
    take a large turbo charger
and MASH THEM TOGETHER !!..and you'll have try cooking fun

my advice, unless your gonna spend over $2000 on this engine, i wouldnt bother... any real power modification requires money or everyone would do it right??

if you dont know much about engines go out and buy your self a new car... or live with the performance, a v6 can become quite expensive because you have to spend more to get gains..

plus you never hear of any buicks getting past 140-150rwkw N/A, it just dosnt happen most of them spend $5000 trying to get there aswell... if you wanted to boost it you could reach 200rwkw with a bit of work

you get what you pay for... but id get it tuned, you can make up a extra 5-10rwkw from that

I posted this pic up myself. Some site admin somewhere pulled it down. Lucky I saved a copy...
It's instructions for Bellmouth removal. Going to be doing mine over christmas/nye.
