Question VP losing power at high speed

A few months ago my VP started losing power at around 100km/h. It seems to cruise ok in top gear, but as soon as the engine needs to work a bit (eg hills, overtaking) then I get a grating sound and power drops. If I give it a bit more gas so that the auto drops down a gear then I get my power back...

My best guess is that something inside the transmission is worn and slipping, but then I don't know much about cars... Any thoughts?

could be the torque converter slipping, thats pretty much what it sounds like from what you've described anyway.
