hey,
with the turbo going on in the car in 2-3 weeks the transmission has decided its going to hinder my progress
the gears feel tight and changes are smooth however on acceleration its slipping
it regains after a few seconds just a sure sign the tranny needs some love
now my question is, could this just be the bands in the transmission and how much do kevlar bands cost??
would they fix this problem and does the transmission have to come out to do them?
VP_luke has a spare transmission that hes offered to me for cheap, so my options are fix my auto which has been perfect till now and serviced regularly or take my chances with a new box (it worked when he pulled it out)
auto transmissions are like alien technology to me, i know the basics
yeah but that all costs money man,
the manual box's are weaker than the turbo's so ive heard
got a quote for a full rebuild to take like 500 engine HP safely was like $3000
manual, auto boxes are big and ugly.
Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
your best bet is to get an auto built for it - yes it costs money, but unfortunately performance costs money
build a tough auto, with a suited converter.... with appropriate strengthening
then you'll be skating around grabbing gears time after time after time
manual would be fun, but a little weird if it's going to be a laggy turbo setup, and also I'm not very convinced about the t5's ability to hold up behind such a setup
Luke.
lol ok i wasnt asking if you think i should convert to manual :P
1) could this just be the bands in the transmission
2) how much do kevlar bands cost??
3) would they fix this problem
4) does the transmission have to come out to do them?
yeah i know, but everyday driving im thinking of dropping it to 6psi which the tranny should hold easily..
im gonna take it in to be looked at soon
i considered a rebuild but i want to get the turbo on first so a replacement box/fixing of mine would be good enough for me for now.. then rebuild later when i blow the box up.. because im not %100 sure how far i want to take this engine and this car, so no point spending $3000 then decide 6 months later i want a diffrent car... if you get my drift
thanks :P
i've been quoted 1500.00 for a rebuilt and shift kitted exchange g/box, for that sort of price i would say thats the way to go, and use the g/box from VP_luke, how unfortunate would it be to get everything together and them have to pull a dodgy g/box out.

the trans will have to come out to do the bands.
A full rebuild + shift kit and strengthen was gonna cost me 2k. If your only runiing 6pound then your sweet in terms of a standard auto rebuild anyway. Youll need to have it looked eventually. Id get lukes box and have it done up abit then drop that in. Mean while get a service done on the current one.
aZk.
yeah looking for a 2nd hand built box, anyone see's one pm me!!
cant do the bands mayaswell build the whole box, get a rebuild and hotted up one mine cost 1300, all the bull shit done minus beast reaction shell only another $50 if i wanted it but if ur after a good cheap strong auto give AMG automatics a ring in west h'berg mick and gary can sort u out.
cheers,
whatchya mean cant do the bands??????
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

aight, anything that can be done to fix it while the box is still in the car???
trans cooler was on my shopping list already
a sirvice does fix the problem in some cases.. Preston automatics do a good job, mine was slipping in first, got a sirvice and its all sweet, my 1st gear responds reeli well now, u plant it in first and it tugs reeli hard.. im soon to get a stage 3 (propper shift kit, not shitty electronic) from prestons which i can get for $250 so they do a good deal

try an oil change b4 you do anything.
13.3 1/4 exhaust only untuned!
Have you checked the oil level? what colour is the oil? does it smell like it been cooked to like 300 degrees?
Band is 2nd and 4th gear if they are working then its not the band.
both Sprags and Fwd Clutch is 1st so its not normal to loose 1st and have everything else
Also is it taking off in second or 3rd? this can be fixed with some heavy foot work on the throttle.
here is the application chart for the Turbo 700
nah i havnt checked the oil level yet,
once the transmission warms up it seems to be fine / less bad
TCI do a rebuild/service kit for the TH-700-R4/4L60 box. includes shift kit plus corvette servos and takes the box up to there super streetfighter transmission standard. they say capable of handling 450ft/lbs is about US$140 from summit racing

its fixed, got a leak in the transcooler
I had a problem with my auto its gettin rebuilt as we speak, But they found the problem, one of the translines were blocked causing the auto to overheat, making it slip and not downchange gears.
mine was leaking along the line to the cooler, under where the ac compressor is.. sprayed oil all over the motor and smoke was everywhere!! it took ages to find the leak, i was lucky it didnt catch fire, tranny oils sposed to be really flammable
