VN series 2 engine, stalls and then starts at random, only fault code is 42 electronic spark timing circuit, could this be the DFI? would a fault code register if it was fuel pump? i ask because i have just done the breather lines in the fuel tank and my first thought was i've disturbed some much in the bottum of the tank and clogged the fuel pump? its my mother in laws car and when i listen to it it runs fine, what is elec spark timing cercuit?

help anyone?

The Elec Spark Timing thingy would have anything to do with the CAS would it? I'm not positive, just more thinking aloud...
And I'm pretty sure the fuel pump doesn't register an error code, but once again, I'm n ot positive.
Can someone clarify?

im no expert but spark sounds like it might be a problem, have you cleaned out the dizzy? and the rotor? clogged fuel pump may also do it but wouldnt it just stop... not stop then start again?
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Funny stalls like this I have read can be a crank angle sensor problem, from memory i has the same fault code when mine played up.
Subsiste Sermonem Statim
ok ask anyone about stalling vn and the first thing they say is crank angle
if youy really want to check your fuel pump get a multi meter take out the fuel pump relay bridge the relay with the multimeter so just the fuel pumps running and not the car and check for voltage draw to the fuel pump (i cant remember if you should start the car and do this check as well cause i dont know if starting would damage i just advice car off onlyt till i find out myself
other than that individually check the wires to an earth with a test light on the ADFI plug insert down the far left side of the unit thatll tell you if you got a faulty one
hope this helps good luck

i have a spare cas so will try swapping, so is the electronic spark timging circuit code just a generic code saying "Hey you timing's up shit creek" or does it refer to the cas individually? i actually was going to measure the volts at the fuel pump but i realized i'd left my amp meter on the last time i used it and had flat battery, doh! how easy is cas to replace, i've taken one of but never put one on, 15/20min job?

VN is electronic ignition... theres no dizzy or rotor, just a ignitor module and a heap of shoddy sensors.
Technically its easy, just plug in plug out, the hardest part is that its located BEHIND the harmonic balancer, so this will need to be removed which can be a pain.

harmonic balancer was removed when i did the heads a month ago, bolt was finger tight, when i put it back on a used lock tight and tourqued it up, this could proove to be a problem!

bit of info i just picked up from holden when you do charge up your amp reader the DFI and coil (use the 2 poles) should read between 5,000 and 6,000 ohms
