    6 or 8?

Looking at the manual for a V6, I would say yes, you can access part of the oil pump. Can get picture if required.

the oil pump drive gear and shaft runs of the crank or the cam behind the timing cover. if its got no oil press/flow id check the filter, they some times block up.

havnt looked i recently changed the timing cover it seemed to come with an oil pump already on it maybe its not all there. i thoguht the oil pump was that thing attached to the timing cover and the oil filter with the gears that go around the crank shaft to turn it.... lots of people are telling me other things... i ganna take the timing cover off again and have a better look

How long can i idle the car before damage can be caused as a result of no oil flow?

It wasnt a supercheap filter was it theres been a few cases over here of the supercheap filters falling apart inside and blocking flow round the engine making the oil pressure light come on and stuff.just a thought.

the manual says to fill the pump with petroleum jelly so it primes faster or it could take a while 10 20 seconds plus it has to fill the filter fill the filter and oil pickup

Try filling the filter with oil and putting it back on. Can get a bit messy but may fix the prob if you didnt do that.

One point when I changed the oil in the 5.0L the car had a bad knock on start up afterwards - sounded like it had done a bearing in - not happy. But was saved by some engine flush as the oil pick up was blocked. 30 mins later engine flushed and had fresh oil/filter and the knock at start up was gone.
