The sedan has developed rust around the window and I only thought it was in 2 small spots but on closer inspection it is starting to discolour all the way around.****** ALL FIXED NOW *******
So its window out and some repair work over xmas before it gets too bad.
Does any have a method or sealing the rear window so it wont happen again?
have included a pic of the close encounter with a gutter before I purchased the car
The two rust spots were what you could see before the window came out.

it may be even worse once you get the windscreen out....i had rust like that in my old vn calais and at first look it wast too bad, but once the windscreen was out the rust went into the underside of the rood about 5cm and all the way down one of the side pillors.
as for how to seal the window once repaired, just what they always use, sikaflex/urethane.
Bugga, not going to like what I see then am I. Oh well. Just another job to explain to the wife. Something like it's not so bad dear.... could have been an engine.

yeh mate theres not too much you can do, i work at a panel shop and our standard procedure for that si to wire wheel the rust out, then metal condition it, then use a rust proofing etch prima and then normal prima then your topcoats, if you manage to seal it up properly with that procedure you shouldnt have too many worries with it again, sixalex and urathane is only used to seal the window in, not really used to stop eventual rusting

THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT
I'll get the windscreen people around after xmas to remove glass. Then have a go at the repairs myself......

Pics of the rust kill on the car plus the wire wheel use to remove all the paint and scale. I also touched the rust spots with a grinder (4") very light.
I used a small brush to paint the rust kill on and will leave to dry over night.

Yeah im hearin ya mate, every Pre VP owners nightmare is rust around the back window.
A good mate worked on the VQ line and said they only dipped them in rust proof to the top of the boot lip so it missed the back window sill.
Then with VP the whole car was coated.
Does this sound familliar to anyone who may have worked at Elizabeth then?
Steve
When the window came out the rust didnt look too bad at first but once cleaned I had about 40 spots of rust. The window was not stuck down in 2 places (fitted poorly). I cut the sticky glue/rubber off with very sharp knife and paint scraper.
I used a small drill with the wire brush thingy and lightly went around and removed all the black paint first and then the car colour. This showed up many more small bits of rust!! Then I got the 4" grinder and lightly took the top of all the rusty bits. So most of the top window chanel, 70% of the right upright and 50% of the bottom chanel. 2 spots on the left upright.
Cleaned all the dust and metal of with a rag - be careful of the grinding dust scratching the paint.

nicccccce.... so probably would of done this for about 180-190?
Yep about that much. Looks a bit dodgy still on the top of the roof - but rust is stopped now and I can rub the roof down later for a respray when I get the $$$.
You just cant leave it with undercoat on it so I slopped the colour on nice and thickIt can rain for a week now
