    Default series1 or 2

i know this may sound stupid but if you never ask you will never find out.
i just got a vp commodore and with my pay i am slowly fixing it up, how do i know if my engine is a series 1 or 2, its a 91 VP Commodore, on the plate it says made on 16/12/91.
    thank you

theres no difference between motors from series one to series 2 on the vp's

but if you mean in regardsto vn series 1/2, itd be the same as a vn s2 motor.

easiest way to tell, is the thermostat housing on the intake manifold is at the front on s2.

Dunno anything about VPs (or anything else, now that I think about it) , but I'd guess it'd be a series 1 VP cos I'm pretty sure VNs were still out in 91, so it's be still in the first year of production.

And it's not a stupid question, I don't know if my VN is series 1 or 2 either.

yeh my thermostat housing it at the front , i was just asking because when i went to get a new thermostat they asked me if it was series 1 or series 2, and i said i wouldnt have a clue give me a series 1 thermostat, took mine out and it matches, so im guessing its a series one but i wasnt 100% sure

Your VN is a series 1.

Your VP is a series 1 although there is absolutely no difference engine-wise anyway.

im pretty sure the thermostats stayed the same, but the gaskets are different. yours uses a diamond shape paper gasket, the series one vn with the thermostat at the back uses a rubber o ring style gasket.

i know the radiator hose that goes to the thermostat changed from vn s1 to vn s2/vp, then changed for any vp/vr with abs, but oil filter? i dont think so. the oil filter mount changed on the ecotec.

ive got 2 vr motors in my shed, a vp motor(unsure what year vp motor) and 2 vn s1 motors. theyve all got the same oil filter setup

but yeh, 89 is definately series 1/1.5.

its amazing what can be changed in 16 odd years though.

Only 1991 models are Series 2. 1990 Models are Series 1.5... 1989 is most DEFINITELY series 1.

If you want to know more, buy a Gregories manual.

Your engine is series 1 as well, found this pic in your thread. Series 1 coil pack:

Don't know what drugs the spare parts guy was on then.. When I was lookin for parts I said it would be a s1, but he assured me it was s2, and said the part he gave me was s2 .... Just goes to show that even those in the industry don't know sometimes...

Maybe he thought it would have been an s2 cause it was built in Sep 89 ... Meh, anyway, thanks for the clarification ...
