Hi,
I put on a post before saying i have a sound from my gear box, but I actually think it's from somewhere else - there seems to be a scraping metal noise, it sounds as though it's coming from the clutch(??????), it is most obvious when I'm releasing and driving off in first & second gears.
does the noise stop when you push the clutch pedal, if so it could be the throwout bearing?
Yep, sounds like a thrust bearing to me. once the clutch is either fully engaged or released it should shut up. Wont really damage anything except for your pride, quite embarrising when a heap of people look and point.
I just checked, and no, the sound is there when the clutch is in, out or, the car's in neutral.
On closer inspection, with someone else in the driver's seat giving it a rev, it could be coming from somewhere in the engine - it's not very loud so it's hard to pinpoint.
Maybe I'll get it looked at.
yer i just replaced my clutch coz it was stuffed and i also heard a noise it was my thrust bearing constantly in contact with the pressure plate teeth and had actually worn the teeth quite bad and a few were even bent
