Took off the trolleybashers yesterday - easy enough - that uberglue came off with them all except the driver's door, where it split in half. The entire length of the driver's door is a big blob of black glue!! Is there anything I can use to get this off?? I'm slowly resigning to the option of a panel shop.
The car'll be in the shop soon anyway with Heron White loaded up (bodykit needs sprayed), so worst comes to worst it won't be too bad....
Any suggestions appreciated!!
Cheers

i used it heaps on my paint and pushed as hard as i can on a bit ya dont see and it didnt touch it
no burning at all
use it all the time
leaves no marks what so ever
ppl are scared to use it im not
Would a heat gun help at all? Soften the glue or something?
And where do you get the caramel wheels from?
dont use heatgun
youll bubble the paint
dont use chemicals either, not that they will take it off anyways.
crash shops have them and most will tell you where to get them from
i was given mne free but told 15 bux
No... do not use a caramel wheel.
Daron, its fine on your car because you have 2pac paint. We VN/VP people use acrylic paint. 2pac paint gets harder when it gets hotter and so a caramel wheel is an ideal solution, acrylic paint gets very very soft. On a really hot day you can even dig the paint off with your nail if you try. A caramel wheel WILL wreck your paint, guaranteed and most crash repairers will tell you the same thing.
Having said that, it reallly does not matter. You will not get the glue off if you have a Berlina/Calais/SS style trim without wrecking the paint and so you will have to get the door resprayed. Not even crash repairers will be able to remove the sikaflex (black glue) without damaging your paint work. If you have an Exec or something it shouldnt be too bad with those thin strips.
bugga
vns really do suck then dont they
hehehee
never thought about that
sorry me bad
dont use wheel
euciliptus oil or big kevs goo remover would work ok
MY CAR
ok. no caramel wheel for me *cries*
yea it's only an exec. trim - thin strip of normal sticky at the top, one long bead of black stuff along the middle ....
anyone had any success with either of those two last mentioned??
I used heapssssss of Eucalyptus oil. It softened it up a bit, but not enough to remove it.
Best bet is to use a razor or something to remove as much as possible without getting close to the paint and damaging it... Then give it a go with eucalyptus oil or something similar and see how it goes.
This is what the Calais/Berlina doors are like behind the trim.... Feel my pain lol
ouch!! i'll get a photo up eventually but mine only has that top glue bead ... i think because it's a thinner trim on the vn exec ...
i'll get to a panel shop tomorrow if i can and ask them about a few things.
a caramel wheel is fine on acrilic paint BUT do not keep it in one place and heat up the paint as it will melt,
we do this at are crash shop and it works fine just take ur time and keep checking the temp of the panel with your hand.
also it is alot easyer to do it ona cold day where a hot day is very hard as the panel is already hot and will burn the paint almost instantly.
there is not real other way to get it off besides buzzing it off witha sander but thats out of the question and thiners dosnt work as it melts acrilic paint
good luck if u try but take your time and keep checking the temp![]()

I might give that a go... like I said, worst comes to worst it'll be in a panel shop with Heron White ready to go on anyway... I'll ask around and see if I can find out where to buy a caramel wheel ...
Cheers guys![]()
Still say it'll take the acrylic paint offCrash Repairers refused to use a caramel wheel on my car, both Mt Pleasant and JC crash or whatever they are called. I'll stick to their word.
Its all good to say dont keep it in one place... But when removing sikaflex you kind of need to.
Speaking of panel shops, can anyone recommend somewhere that's happy to play with fibreglass?? A lot of places don't seem to want to touch it . . .
I got a couple of fitting ... issues ... with the VX conversion kit, and I need someone to sort them out before I look at getting it painted.
i had the spoiler off mine for a while and when i pulled it off it had sikaflex under the mounting posts, all i did was rub it off with prepwash on a rag, it came off slowly and after it was all off i polished the paint where it was and it came up a treat with minimal marks.
get the big bits off with your nails then rub it with prepwash.
throttle body cleaner will also soften the shit but if you use it dont get it on the paint and only use a tiny bit to soften the sticky shit, dont rub the paint with tb cleaner as it will come straight off and youll be looking at the colour your car used to be on your rag lol
erm ... prepwash?
Oh and I've tried fingernails. This is old and hardcore stuff ... bent many of my nails back on themselves. Possibly the worst feeling in the world.
prepwash or (prepsol) is a wax and grease remover that panel beaters often use to clean panels and bare metal.
if you keep applying the prepwash it should soften the shit and it wont damage paint.
what i did which i know is hard on a door being vertical but with my boot i kept soaking rags in prepwash and letting them sit on one section while i picked and rubbed at another!!! give it a try you have nothing to loose.![]()
Good plan. Cheers mateI'll give it a go if I can find some.
man if its sikaflex then its going to be a PAIN in the ass..
It's shaping up that way, unfortunately . . .
