Hi all,
I am in the market for a VN SS and am wondering if anyone can tell me how I can determine if they are genuine.
Does anyone know the model codes or similar? I am looking specifically at automatics so if someone has the details relating to auto VN SS's I would be very appreciative.
Thanks,
TEMPA
The Body and Option Identification Plate has the model code on it.
I dont know all the options but one is the cop ver BT1.

White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
Thanks mate.
Got that much myself.
I need to try to find what the actual model codes are so I can compare them to the one on the build plate.
Everything I have found so far (using the VIN) points to the car I am looking at being either a 5.0 Executive or an SS.
I need to narrow it down further....

Whats the colour code on the build plate? They only came out in three colours. If you can match these codes with the paint then it should be genuine.
Hello mate,
I haven't seen this actual car yet. Going to see it tonight. It is Atlas Grey.
Do you know the paint code for that colour?
Might also be looking at a Phoenix Red one as well so if you, or anyone else, has that paint code too I would appreciate it.
Thanks for your help,
TEMPA
I can have a look at mine tonight to get the code for the atlas grey. Might have to do a little research or ask other owners with the other colours.
There is a thread all about this on street commodores if you want to go and search for it there
colour code isnt going to help you man if its a dolled up exec thats got the matching colour code to the colour like an atlas grey exec or something, look at the susp code if its an ss it will have fe2, that will be a fair indicator, cheers , Mat
Arnt the colours only for the ss models? I have never seen these colours on any executive models. People can get cars resprayed......
That link would be handy, if someone could post it?
Thanks
even if it was a resprayed exec, the color code would be the same e.g. if a exec was white and resprayed atlas gray the plate would still read that it was white.
We got rep back, yaaay!
true but he asked how to tell if an ss is genuine, not if the car is the original colour it came from factory with, there were white execs, white ss's phoenix red ss's and phoenix red execs etc etc, there were also other models in atlas grey.
i think u get the point, to avoid confusion wouldnt it just be easier to look for the fe2 sports susp code that was standard on the ss?????
that would be easier and athough not definate a more acurate indicator that the car his looking at is an ss or atleast at bare minimum a dolled up bt1!!!!!
if all fails its simple, just ring holden and give them the numbers and theyll tell you on the spot exactly what the car is and what options it came with!!!!! that works all the time, thats what id do, just to save stuffing around.,
cheers mat.
Easiest way is the Body and Option Identification Plate. Listed under model it will have VN8VK19-A9F for an auto or VN8VK19-A9G for a manual.

Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
yea when i bought my VPSS, i went to a holden dealership and asked them to run the VIN to see if its genuine. they ran it, told me its a VP, a V8, a white sedan, it has FE2, when and where it was built, but they couldnt tell me if it was a exec, or a SS. they said SS's are only glorified exec;s, which is tue. but then it didnt really worry me if it wasnt a genuine coz i got it cheaper then alot of VP V8 executives anyway lol. but i did check into it abit more and found out it is a SS so its all good![]()
fair enough. what would it be for a VP SS auto then?
why is it that when i rang holden with the numbers of my car they told me that it was an ss and gave me a description of every option the car had. if the numbers matched etc etc
yer but if u do a microcat lookup with the tag (L000000) it gives you the option codes and if they were used on that car.. so if im looking up a rear bar and i type in the tag and it gives me an ss bar then its genuine ss.. if it gives me an exec bar then its a mockup.. they should have bee able to tell you
Don't blame me, It's that damn percadan..
If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain...
And now a word from our new sponsor.. Percadan? oh crap!

um its in the vin.. im not sure off the top of my head but i can tell you 2moro afternoon after work.. theres like letters in there that say 8VL or 8VK or 8VX. i no that 8VX is calais, ss would be something similar but i cant tell you off the top of my head sorry.. im only an apprenticebut it breaks the vin up into sections, giving you where it was assembled, options, v6/v8 trim style etc..
