Default ignition stuffed and housing is cracked $316 to fix ?

Ive read other posts on this but nothing about the housing being cracked.

My ignition is stuffed u have to wiggle and force it to turn and has gotten worse,I took it to preddys and when he open it up he said that my housing is cracked and needs replacing as well as the barrell, all up gonna cost me $316

    $166 for the barrel & $150 for the housing...$316

I also have full metal jacket so its gonna take bit longer to remove etc he said..

$300 seems like alot but does this sound reasonable...??

I got barrel and keys 4 50 buck from Holdens? If you're not from SA, do you have something like a place called motortraders? They have factory gear cheaper than the dealers?

Holden sell the barrels uncoded for bout $50,the housing is about $170.Get the barrel coded to suit your original key.The locksmith charged me $30 to code the barrel and fit it to the housing.
Talk to Keesh,he might be able to get it cheaper for you.
Onece you get the jacket off then it is very easy to do your self as i did it about a month ago on my VQ.
    Good luck with it.

when my car got stolen, I needed a new ignition. I got all the ignition and everything from a wrecked car. I also got a full metal jacket from it aswell. It took ages to get the jacket off, but ignition was easy to swap over
Australia. Love it or leave it

ok I payed them to get it fixed for $300 but there is one problem, Today when I was driving the car i turned a sharp corner and there was a clunk from the steering column so when i got home I had a better look and when I move the steering wheel side to side there is a clunking noise which was never there before and not only that the plastic covering that covers the back of the steering wheel has not been fitted correctly as I can look into it and see 2 bolts and some wires and the covers been cracked slightly & not evenly put back in place and the cover thats underneath is missing a screw and the covers have lot of movement.

When the full metal jacket is removed would they bash it off or similar and cause this damage ?

When I look at the 2 bolts which i never seen before cause its normaly covered up and I move the steering wheel to the side i can see movement where the left bolt is,It looks like it needs tightening or something.I got the torch out and shined it on the bolts the right one has the thread of bolt sticking out fair way but the left one has no thread of the bolt sticking through like the other one,Do they have to undo those 2 bolts to get at the steering column/ignition easier ? there looks like fresh scratch marks on the nuts so Im guessing they have.

All I know is there was no clunking of the steering column before I took it to them yesterday so its got to be their fault anyways I just wanted to know has this happened to anyone when they have removed the full metal jacket and housing etc and have had similar problem ?

I just dont want them to say no its nothing to do with what they as I know there was no problems until they did work on it.
does the jacket have to be forced off ?

I called them up just as they were shutting shop and the bloke said to bring it in so im going first thing in the morning. Will let you all know what happens.

Sounds like they unbolted the steering column bolts(it makes it a bit easier to get to things). You should be able to tighten them yourself. If that is what it is then go back and go off at them. That could kill you and others.
