Hey,
I've got a light intermittent miss on my VP V8 on all throttle settings, with the engine light flickering as well.
I've plugged my laptop and winaldl in, but nothing looks wrong and there are no error codes logged. (I also checked the flashes on the dash and got code 12).
The car has recently had new plugs, leads, coil, dizzy and ign module (paid the mechanic's mortgage for a while).
I've done some searching and a couple of possibilities are o2 sensor or alternator. Of course the new ign module could be stuffed too!
Anyone else had this problem?
first you need to check all the leads are on properly and check the plug gaps are correct. then you need to put the car in diagnostic mode and check the base timing on the dizzy is set correctly (it should be 6 degrees from memory but if you only run premium fuel you can move that up a max of 4 degrees for some extra torque). if possible you need to check for fault codes as soon as the next time they occur. when was the last time you changed the fuel filter? and run some injector cleaner through the fuel system to give everything a good clean

Yup, leads all good, plug gaps good. Timing checkd ok. New fuel filter 1 month ago. Injector cleaner put thorugh it a couple of months ago.
It ran well for a month or so after renewing the entire ign system and just last week began playing up.
There are no fault codes logged, just the check light flickers dimly all the time.
Thanks for the reply immortality!
then i'd possibly be looking at the ignition module that was fitted, you still have the old one that was removed? or maybe you have a mate you could borrow one from? if the o2 sensor was faulty i wouldn't expect it to be missing, maybe run rich or something. the alternator is easy to check if you access to a multimeter. all you need to do is check that the system voltage remains around 14volts with or without any load on the system.

if the engine light is flickering all the time it will be a faulty ECM

Thanks Rob, I was beginning to wonder that as well...

yep my vn ss had the engine light flickering all the time with no codes. Changed ECU and presto all fixed!!
Thanks for that! Have a spare ECU which I'll chuck in tomorrow - asked a local holden trained bloke and he agreed that 99% when the light flickers constantly without error codes it's the computer.
Just to let people know- changed the computer, same mecal, and all fixed! Love that V8 power......![]()
