    Unhappy VP Gearbox Removal

    Gents

My VR Berlina's auto gearbox has just shit itself. I've been without a car for a while and I really want to get my VR back on the road. I have got a hold of a VP commodore with a engine and gearbox that is in really good nick. I know that they both have the exact same engine, so my plan is to swapo the auto gearbox and torque converter over to my VR.

I've noticed that this forum is great for finding step by step instructions on how to dismantle parts of the car. Does anyone have any information or links on how to remove the auto gearbox of a VP - VR? Anything will be a great help. I was told be a mate that it is a piece of piss... is this true?

    Cheers

your vr auto is different to your vp auto. vr is electronic and vp isn't
so you will have to get another auto for a vr..
OR i don't know if you could do it. but swap the motor and gearbox over and use the VP computer. but once again i am not sure if you can do that. i would be just getting another auto for the VR

as defa says, the boxes are different and not inter changable really. mechanically it can be done but your going to end up with all sorts of ECU error codes etc. as the wiring is totally different

check the code on the trannie. 4hdd i beleive it should be. if its the same code then should be straight swap as i have done the same thing to mine. cant remember what we pulled it out of tho{wreckers}. but it's not a piece of piss. took me and my uncle whose a mechanic about 5-6 hours to do. lot of ****in around and you'll need high ramps or a pit but can make do with normal ramps and axel stands. you have to take out tailshaft, part of exhaust{near headers} undo plugs, undo bolts at bell housing, undo bolts neat torque converter, undo brace bolts, carefully get it out without dropping on head{i almost did too}. then reverse order with biggest problem getting trannie into right spot. helluva job that i woulnt do again if i had the choice.
