Default Advise needed and problems with my VN

    1. I've got a set lows and a set of shocks all round for my VN, I'm planning to put them in once I get some rims. I was just wondering will I have to buy anything else to install them, I remember people saying you might need to buy a panhard for doing the back, is this true?

    2. When my VN over heats in the hot weather and Melbourne traffic my thermo fan only turns on for a second then straight off, it’s like there’s a short somewhere, I've already given power to the thermo fan itself to see if it was broken but it works fine. I was wondering if anyone’s had this problem and could they give me some advice.

    3. I have a VN Calais and my rear driver’s side electric window doesn't work and my rear passenger side central locking doesn't work. I was wondering is there any way of testing the motors with a multi-meter and a battery to see if it the motors that are dead or if it’s the wiring?

    4. My roof lining has all completely fall down, I was wondering if anyone had the link to the tutorial webpage on how to do it yourself? I did have it but the links now dead.

    Cheers, mickah

    1. You'll need aset of spring conpressors, and please make sure you use a set of axle stands (assuming you don't have a hoist in your backyard, i know i'd love one tho), a Jack on its own isn't safe.

A Panhard is actually another part of the suspension all together, although i can't remember exactly what it does, but i think it just stiffens up the back end.

    2. Are you talking about the standard clutch fan, or an aftermarket Thermo?

If the standard clutch fan, i think its trigger is 3/4 temp, but your VN would be around that temp in the heat your talking of (my 5L only gets to half at a max)

If its a thermo, i suggest just hooking it up to a switch inside the cabin somewhere (in the ashtray is best, if you've ever seen mine) so it can be turned on whenever you need it (such as heavy slow moving traffic, or burnouts which is what mine is for)

    3. You don't have a rear drivers side electric window, but i know what you meant (lol) I'm assuming the left one is still working, and the drivers side one doesn't work fullstop, which would most commonly be the mirror itself, so you'll need a new one from a wrecker. It could be the switch, and when you flick it over to the drivers side its not connecting power, but will to the passenger side. Easy way to test this, borrow a switch from a mate (takes 30 seconds to unplug)

The central locking are prone to 'sticking' (as mine do randomly from time to time) Are they actually completely stuffed, or is it constantly not working?

To check, manually lock them (push them down) then unlock the car. If they 'unlock' its just that there sticking, and theres a few threads on here about how to remove and clean them.

    4. No clue about the rooflining, a dodgy mate of mine just for a tech screw and bolted it to the roof, to the metal brace along the width of it, although i don't suggest this method.

You already have a panhard rod, its just not adjustable. It purpose is to move the diff from left to right. When you lowera car its moves the diff to the side (either) and the role of the panhard rod is to correct this. As the standard rod is not adjustable, you may require a new adjustable panhard rod to correct your diff placement.

The door lock is most often a bad connection. Take the trim off and give the connectors a good clean.

Swap the fan relay with the horn to see if the relay is the prob.

I figured that much, but i thought i'd just post the obvious. Not to steal the thread or anything, but my car is fair low, so should i be getting an adjustable rod?
