hey, im going to be doing some touching up of my paint job as ive damaged it, cracked bumpers and that usual stuff that happens from doin 120 sideways down a gravel road...
now ive got alot of stone chips and that crap on the metal paint, being metal its rusted, when i sand it out what should i do, use primer/filler, or prime the metal and overlap it onto the paint, then give it a fresh coat over the top, ive done a fair ammount of painting but only when its been all primed, no repair work..
also is it possible to get chrome paint, im looking at chroming the black door strips on my car like on the series 2 calais,
my front bumpers rooted (LOL) kinda rolled it into a big rock, hit a few too many gutters backing out etc, the usual crap you do with a lowered car and bodykit...
the whole car is going to get a fresh coat of paint (apline white on top insted of faded ass white)
any tips???
if you go back to metal you should use an etch primer first, though if u sand them out and paint it, it will look all rippley when you look down the car so you will have to bog it and sand, bog it and sand and so on until it is perfectly flat and just remember it may look ok but it wont feel ok so always run your fingers accross the bog after u have sanded to make sure you get it right. it also helps to put a test coat ova it wen sanding is finished cause that will bring up any faults in your work straight away and you just lightly sand it off when your ready to prime. hope this helps
Treat the rusty spots or it'll come back later!!! The use of a mist coat over the repair area is a good idear. Use a light coat of a darker colour (I do mean mist coat) onto the undercoated repaired area. block off with wet 600/800. You will see any marks then that need further work.
