Hey
I just bought a vp calais 93 model 5 litre auto and the transmission is buggered, it wont go into third or fourth gear and cant drive more than 80kms. I havent had it serviced or looked at yet but Im assuming it need a rebuild. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what options i have and what kind of prices im looking at and if anyone knows where i should take it in melb that would be great
low gearbox oil?
Lots of threads on this, just do a search.
If it needs rebuilding, I would head down to the wreckers and pick up a manual conversion kit. It might cost a little bit more in the end, but it will be better to drive.
if it need a rebuild just get a working one out of the paper for $400. but i would change oil first see if that helps
13.3 1/4 exhaust only untuned!
This is a common problem with the TH700 transmission. They are a piece of crap. They can be rebuilt but it will cost alot and at the end you still have a crap box. There are ways of toughening them up but that costs even more. GM never put these behind the 350 because they wernt though enough to handle the power so any mods to a 304 will soon see it back at the mechanics. If you want a auto go for a Turbo 400 but in my opinion a T5 conversion is the way to go.
