Default question about VN motor and box combo's

im after some info on a VN V6's. a mate of mine has a VN V6 5Spd (series2) and his motor is about ot die. so he is gonna get another motor and put that in til he can rebuild his.

he was told to get a series 2 motor or a series 1 manual motor as the series 1 auto motors are different in the fact that he wont be able to bolt his maunal box up to it. can someone clarify this for me?

what i wanna no is, what other VN motors will a series 2 maunal box bolt up to? aparently it wont bolt up to a VN s1 auto motor... but will bolt up to a s1 manual motor... and s2 it will bolt up to either...

we were told it has something to do with how many bolts they have to bolt up to the motor... one has 6 bolts, while the other has 8 bolts...

    any help please???

yeah the series 1 VN has a 6 bolt flywheel where as the others (series 2 VN -VR) have an 8 bolt.
so anything but the series 1 will be able to bolt up fine...tuning may be a little different, but thats another story.

wouldn't the gearbox bolt up to any motor it's just a matter of getting a different flywheel?

From what i understand, the output shaft on the automotic and manual series one motors are diferent, so no, its not just a matter of getting the correct flywheel, the easiest way to do it is to get the series 2 onwards motors and boxes, they are better than the earlier gear, and almost anything you can find is going to be better than the early motors, wear and tear wise and how many Ks its done.

his T5 box will bolt to any s2 motor be it auto or manual engine originaly, if you use an engine that originaly had an auto fitted make sure you fit the spigot bearing in the end of the crank shaft before fitting the box. you can't fit your box/flywheel onto the s1 motors cause they have a 6 bolt flange on the crank where yours will be 8 bolts etc tuning shouldn't be a problem, ask greenfoam but the s1 VN's had the best base tunes but the can be improved
