my series 1 v6 leaks out the rear main seal a little. i am not all that worried about it but i would like to replace it as i have the motor out to do the welsh plugs.
i have heard about poeple using a sneaky pete/slipery jim and i spose there are other names for it. i really don't want to take the crank out so that is why i am leaning towards this other idea.
does anyone know anything about them and how they work etc..
sneaky pete/slipery jim??? All you do is wedge it out with a screwdriver, put a bit of permitex no.3 (gasket goo) on the seal and tap it in evenly, preferably with something the same size n shape. I just did mine 2 days ago, I used the old seal to help tap it in.
vr have a urathane seal where as the vn s1 have a rope seal.
i would say in my opinion and experience it is eayser to pull off all the main bearing caps and lift the crank a little slip the old one out and slip the new one in. i dont trust those sneakey tools......maby its got something to do with the name lol
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

hehehe. yeah ya could be right. i spose it really isn't that much effort to unbolt the main caps.. i might just do that if i can find a rope seal tomorrow in horsham.. if not i think i will just put the motor back on again, and replace it if and when i rebuild it..
