while my motor is out i thought it might be a chance to remove or dissconnect the balancer shaft..
now what i want to know is. is it worth doing.. what are the pro's and con's of doing it.
i have heard of people doing it and saying there engine runs smoother and had more power..
but yeah.. let me know what the go is with it.. and what is involved if you take the hole shaft out. or if ya can just leave the shaft in there and disconnect it..

the balance shaft was fitted for exactly the purpose it is named for, balancing the engine. to remove it i've heard makes it worse. maybe if the rotating mass was balanced properly you could do away with it but i'm certainly no expert on the subject. as mentioned above, you may need to block of some sort off oil feed also. there was a thread here some time ago about removing the balance shaft. i think in the end he decided to try it and see what happens but i don't remember ever seeing the results. probably best to consult a specialist engine builder on this subject

I've heard of people taking them out but why? You may get a tiny increase in power due to a reduction in power loss with less reciprocating mass, but it's there to balance out harmonic frequencies (vibrations). I guess if the whole engine is blueprinted with a different crank rod and pistons then it may now be useless because of the different harmonics with the new components, but yours ain't. Leave it there!
Done this to jappas before allright if you get the bottom end balanced and make sure any oil galleries are blocked.Did it to my TT250 motorbike a few weeks ago without balancing the bottomend just about jumps out from under ya when its idling but it revs heaps harder faster big difference in power .I plan on taking mine out if I rebuild my v6.
when ya do this ya should let us know how it went.. i have heard of people doing it without doing anything else and it made ther motor run smooter. that was on a mitsubishi 4 banga though..
You will probably be picking up bits of v6 at some stage down the track as the v6 is naturally very harsh and kills engine mounts WITH THE BALANCE SHAFT IN! Take the balance shaft out without spending $$$ on balancing the bottome end - the poor vn will fall apart in no time.
My 5 cents worth.

I think a lot of jappas had them just to save cost and time on balancing the bottom end perfectly during mass production so they went the cheap way and put the extra shaft in some have two shafts even.
the reason you take it out in the v6 is because the double row timing chains dont fit with it in.
if you arent going double row chain, dont bother taking it out unless the bearings are stuffed. i "think" you can leave it in and remove the or one of the gears to stop it rotating.
Yeah when you take the camshaft sprocket off the balance shaft gear just falls off with it you would just have to get the gear trimmed down on a lathe so its just a spacer instead of a gear and just leave the balance shaft in the hole with the gear still on it total cost f-all .
