I normally buy Castrol GTX-2.. But today i was looking over the Castrol Edge oils and thought i might get the 25w-50 Oil they have too try, Anyone else used this oil at all. I know it's for performance engines but i was thinking since they are stressed out engines like race etc maybe it's a good oil too try on a high k motor?.

Yep no worrys i can do that.. I thought if it's for hard run high performance engines it can't hurt mineeven if mine isnt a race car.

I have done some reading up on it, And i think it's what i'm after, It's job is what all of us want from oils.
I have used Shell 20w-50 first time i got my car and thought it was very good, Then tried Castrol GTX2 pretty much the same.. It was funny i don't like Shell and Castrol or mobile oils i have been a Valvoline person but if it's good i'll give it a go and this is what i'm doing now
Some things on Castrol Edge 25w-50..
I should fill it up by friday or the weekend, I'll let it go for 1 week and see and let everyone know. I can't see how it's going too be bad if it's for race engine and high powered motors then it can only protect these engine even moreHigh Performance mineral based oil recommended for modified engines, including push-rod technology street machines and big bore competition engines.
Purposely been bred to:
* performance advantages in certain engine components in very high performance applications.
* minimises oil consumption and boost oil pressure in big bore engines
* provide race-winning protection, tough enough to handle a hard driving style
* assist in maintaining optimum oil pressure in large displacement high performance engines
* comply with the Australian Motor Industry agreed phosphorous limits for prolonged catalyst and oxygen sensor life
* SAE 25W-50
* API SG/CD
1. Protection against wear
The car engine should be the last thing to worry about on the road.
Specially selected additives in Castrol Edge manage the damaging effects of the engine environment, controlling dirt, neutralizing acid and fighting oxidation. This keeps the metal in the engine how and where it should be, solid and strong, not worn off into dust.
2. Oil lasts longer
Oil should stay in the engine and not be burnt off. When it’s in the engine it should be in good condition.
When Castrol Edge is in the engine, the oil stays in prime condition, prolonging engine life.
3. Performance in extreme conditions
In cold weather, Castrol Edge helps an engine warm up and start easily. Under extreme hot conditions, it resists thinning, thus avoiding trouble from the engine. These translate to better power and start-up protection
4. Cleaner for longer
Car engines that are clean inside last longer and run better. Catalysts and diesel exhaust filters also work better when they’re clean.
Castrol Edge's unique mix of detergents and dispersants keeps engine parts cleaner and maintains your machine to its maximum.

5. Power protection
To maintain optimal power levels, you need to demand more from your engine. That's why the quality of engine oil is important to combat oil deterioration, which can lead to a loss of power.
Castrol Edge has been designed to out muscle the performance stresses placed on an oil when the engine is run hard.

6. Fuel economy
The Castrol Edge range contains oils that have been specially designed to give fuel economy savings while protecting the engine and keeping it running efficiently.

7. Thermal control
Some oils run cooler, or warm up quicker than others.
Castrol Edge oils run cooler. Castrol Edge reduces stress on the engine and increases useful oil life, creating significantly less oxidation and deposits within the engine.

i got at least 275***. odometer says 262*** but that wasnt workin when i got it so i have idea. its high tho
mine does use a bit
My engine doesn't use a drop at all never, But it is sounding it's age when warming, It ticks a little at times but it's still i would say one of the most quietest buick engine in oz. But in saying that i'm looking for something good better protection, I'm not worried about oil warming up fast cause i will always warm the motor before going anywhere, It's when it's hot or i might stress it out more i want too protect the engine more at high temps rather then low temps because i won't drive it till it's had some time too warm and i wont run it hard cold. But like today it was hot it felt sluggish at times and got a touch louder, I was told to get a thicker oil but i really don't want too get the thick stuff, That's why i though maybe this might be a good try for the next 3 months and just see if it's any good?.
I also might have a sticky oil pump that might not help.

I got the Edge running in now, Done about 50km with it and it's cleanest looking oil much like synthetic oils, And it looks a little red orange, Not sure if so early i can really make a decision on it but so far i can't complain, Seems smooth maybe quieter idle is nice and if i go hard a can pick up a slight tick, Not ticking that's good but really i'll give it a week or so maybe a full tank, But so far all good.

You may find this to be interesting. My father wrote this, and has had many years of experience working with oils in Trucks and Cars. He owns A Porsche 928, so this is a basic reference to that, but the basic principals apply to any engine

Hi everyone?
Well here's some proof for ya on the castrol edge 25w50!
I have done my last 4 services using this oil and the engine has done 270 thousand kl'ms, and i can tell ya that my engine is running sweet as and sounds as solid as the day it was built.
I change oil every 5000 and filter every 10,000 religously!just for the record! and at change time the oil is still like new! vertally no discoloration at all! maybe a tiny little bit but not much i can tell ya that for sure!
Engine at startup from cold is very quiet and i did have lifter noise running other oils but since using edge ya got a job to hear it now!
So there ya go ppl that's my eperience with the castrol edge oils!![]()
which one are you using? are there different ones or just the one castrol edge 25w50?i reckon i'm gonna change now
as far as i know m8 there is only 1 25w50 but if there isn't it is the (castrol edge sport)
That's great news so I'm even more happy with getting it in now.
I also have lifter nose so I'm looking forward to the engine getting more quieter over the weeks, Only 50km so far and it's been getting quieter, The tapping nose that comes after a spirited run isn't there.
With the edge i believe they have 3 versions, The other 2 are synthetics...
Maybe 0w-30 5w-35 ?

Also guy's n gals i must stress this point! if you really want to look after your engine especially those of you that flog the crap out of them! lol,
change your oil every 5000 k's without fail!!! and you should then keep a good clean engine with very little wear as dirty oil causes wear!
cause as i said in my previous post i do mine religiously every 5000k's and filter every 10,000 and mine has 270,000 k's on it and still going strong and i do on occasions stick it into it lol!
ok ppl hope i have helped in some way.
If u want the best use Penrite 'Sin' no doubt.... even if u don't have a race bread engine you will feel the smoothness at idle and the response at throttle with 20w 50. I have used it since it came out 2 or 3 years ago. I will never turn back..
