wiring loom conversion vn - vp calais

gday, im having a few problems with putting a vp calais wiring loom into a vn executive. i changed the plugs that were different on the vp loom. but i cant seem to turn the car over with the ignition. the lights come on every so often , dash lights work but no movement on the needles and the wipers work. i can turn the motor over by putting the key to the on position and shorting out the soilinoid on the starter. would it be an earthing problem or is it a far greater problem?
