Default fuel pump and starter motor????

okay just bought a vn for 400 bucks, it doesnt kick over and i think im up for a new starter motor and fuel pump, when i turn the key a consistant ticking noise comes from the injectors i dont hear the fuel pump winding up and then engine doesnt crank? do u think thats all it is?

I would slap in another starter motor and just have a look at your wiring for your fuel pump and check the any fuses to make sure there is none that are blown first

thats a battery problem the click is the solenoid poping out in the starter(dosent take much power) but the motor wont turn coz it takes like 60A or something huge.

i am also gonna guess that because it makes a lot of clickes(not just 1 as it should) that the battery is probably not flat(check anyway) and the terminals are bad so tighten them, check to see that there isnt a build up of white stuff on them etc.

i'll second that, it's mostlikely the starter making the clicking noise. as above, check battery and wiring etc. does the puel pump run for a few seconds when turning the key initially

hahaha, my missus little brother just got a VP V6 5spd i think for $100 thats doesn't run either, engine problem i think. going over later today to have aplay with it and see if i can get it off him, hehehehe he's a mechanic but doesn't know a lot about the electrical side of things

I am pretty sure the clicking will come from a protection relay, not the starter solenoid itself, for the price of it, put a new battery in then you know its new.

you'll need to sort the starter before you can get to the fuel system.

so you tryed the battery from your other vn and you checked that is had charge? nothing happened. made sure all your connections and fuses are ok? do you have an omh meter? that would help in testing maybe, even a test light.

well i only got it finnaly today, was mucking around with it, battery is dead, the terminals were all covered in acid powder, i dont know how to check the block fuses? i see these big bosch things and i just think to my self **** that, it definently needa a starter and a pump, the fuel pump doesnt prime or make any noise on start up and the starter motor doesnt crank it just makes a quick tick noise once per key turn.

try tapping the starter motor and getting someone to turn the key at the same time and see if it starts...if it does start then yeh the starter motor is definatly cactus.

So have you put a good battery in the car yet. then you can see if the fuel pump is priming or if the starter will turn the motor over

    replace battery or charge it

when you crank and it dosnt start or make funny noises then you have a issue :P

yeah the click is normal, thats the relay for the starter, sounds like the starters dead but id check the spade terminal as mines come off before,

also click it over to the engine lights thingy (2 clicks) and listen outside the car see if u can hear the fuel pump whining, if it dosnt then you might have blown a pump, they do go after like 200,000km's

"the terminals were all covered in acid powder" that alone made me think it was the starter befor battery was FULL. took starter out worked fine so i put it back in, then cleaned terminals. worked fine! that might also be why there is no fuel. just get boiling water and a tooth brush to clean it, what i did. do this first! as its free, after you get a good battery that is.

Has it got one of those security keys in the glovebox or passinger door give it a wiggle see if the pump goes
try thumping the tank a bit too sometimes it unsticks the fuel pump and they go again
