    Default faulty odometer....

    hey all. i have a v6 vp with a level 1 cluster (ie no tacho). the odometer & trip meter have stopped and the cause is a small, white gear in the speedo that is motor driven and the gear has lost a tooth. any word on where i can get a new gear wheel? i have watched for a cheap level 2 cluster on ebay but no luck as yet. or anyone got a cheap level 2 cluster (for a v6) for sale?

    i got a level 2 vp cluster but its from my 5ltr... are they different? im in nowra...
    Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

    I think there is a difference in the V6 and V8 calibrations...

    I had this problem a while ago ... I ended up buying a cheap BT1 speedo off ebay and pulling it apart to fix the existing one... It is pretty easy to replace the parts... The cog that broke in mine was the little grey one, I will have a look at home tonight to see if I still have the white one as a spare ... Just PM me to keep on reminding me... I have been pretty flat out setting up a new business and that is taking up most of my time/thoughts at the moment...

    If you go down the ebay path, it could be a good time to upgrade to a level 2 or 3 cluster... Level 2's (from what I understand) will fit straight into your car, and the level 3 requires the spare plug, some wiring, and the extra switches...

    If I were you, I would pick up a cheap level 2 cluster .... But hey, that is just me ...

    I fixed mine myself. Got the gear from Able Instruments.

    Cost me $11. I just asked for the speedo gear in a VN and gave them my credit card number.
    I arranged my own freight but it should only cost 50 cents to get it posted.
    Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

    Just found my spare parts.. I only have the large one which is grey on 1 side and black on the other... Looks like two clogs put together... But this is the one that is driven off the really small grey-white one... All the small ones I have seem to be missing a tooth or two...

    So looks like you may need to call the above mentioned people....

    hey all thanks for the tips... the v8 tacho and v6 are different.... i will keep hunting for the the level 2 - u r right about the L3 cluster needing more wiring... note too that the vr/vs clusters are different to the vn/vp - the power is wired up differently... cheers and thanks all, pete.

    Let me know how you go with the cluster hunt... The best offer on mine was $100 ... Had a guy lined up to buy it and the plug for $150 but he pulled out...

    hey 89vncommy - thanks for the words.. i will keep an eye on ebay and see what is there... i saw another thread about converting a v6 cluster to a v8 car, but none on the opposite. cheers.
