was sat in a vr 5speed ute at work today at idle with no radio on just the engine and the sound off the car idling,
i felt the whole car vibrate while i was sat at idle and thought geez this is ruff, it didnt sound to have any missifirng just made the car rocked a bit.
ive her the buick is a bit ruff and shakey but didnt know if it was really that bad, how do yous tend to put up with this? or do you grow aquatent to it over time?
im not here to braging or bash either motor or to choose a fight but just it stood out to me like a dogs dicks as im use to the rb30 which is supposbly quite and smooth

I actually like the roughness of the engine. Mine is probably even rougher than standard as mine has VR computer and injectors. The car shakes around at idle but its smooth as on the highway and when you put the boot in.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
The harshness is from crook engine mounts.

The rough idle has always been a problem in the buick v6's, over the years they did use the bellmouth in the intake manifold and experiment with different tunes etc which helped on idle, it was pretty good but still not perfect. Personally i dont mind it, you get used to it after a while. More of a feature than a fault![]()
Yeah its good to know that there is actually an engine in there. I dont understand why there is this big thing about NVH. Its a car, its powered by explosions, get over it. Making a car quiet just disconnects you from the driving experience IMO.

i had a s1 manual and it wasnt that bad, there was a mild harshness but nothing you would notice unless you looked for it.
I've got a VP series 1... fairly smooth cars. Took out the bellmouth, installed a VN computer chip, and now she idles like she hates me. I absolutely love it. ^^

vn s1 had a lumpier cam stock :P, they're harsh and i love it...
I just got a Series 1 VP, and yeah its a bit rough. But i still havn't given it a thorough go over.
That and the fact as soon as the money is saved, it'll get a 5 litre and a 5 speed.

If you do things righ people wont know you have done anything at all...
its a tractor, accept it. Mine seems fine until I drive the wifes quad cam diamante where you cant hear or feel the motor at any speed including idle. its so smooth its plastic and anemic; dam things fast though.
it really depends on the car, i have been in some that are smooth as silk and some that are rough as guts
We got rep back, yaaay!
yeah it depends on the car and how its been treated. my car is pretty smooth actually except for when under load (in drive and stopping at the lights or something).... besides that its usually pretty smooth really and if i leave it started and take around 2-3 steps i cant hear it.... only thing i can hear is the original "lifters tick" but thats a vn thingbut the actual engine i cant hear... if that makes sense *rolls eyes*

Slap a Buick V6 into a VE and the car itself will make the engine quite that's modern cars.
Mine is fine when driving, It's more slightly a miss when idle in park then in drive. Doesn't shake the car around at all.

If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
I've had a few vn's in my time (s1 & s2 autos & manual's) & in mech good order they dont have a problem beeng roughness, Most of the guys up there ^^^ know what you mean & i know too as i have dh mates lol, But another suggestion is...He has a spark lead off which does cause viberations & roughness. (Trying the be cheap & makeing the engine sound lumpy with stock cam)
Im a true commy boy!!!
i changed my engine mounts recently, its REALLY smooth now
my vs is pretty good, my uncle thats been a mechanic for years commented on how smooth it was for a ecotec but its runny pretty crappy cause of my oxy sensors and injectors
the ol buicks were not a very well balanced engine to start with
Hey wrong place to insult the buicks![]()

I thought my idle was rough till i pulled up next to a worked v8 of some sort (valiant/mustang style). lumpy cams straight through exhaust...
It was so loud that my car was shaking and his panels were all visibly vibrating...
Was insane... i did my window up so i didnt get blasted as he took off...
Had heavy clutch too.. it would wait for traffic to pull away, lurch forward, stop etc...
Dont like my driving? Get off the sidewalk!
