Default Painting Dash... Too tired to search...

Ok my dash is currently sitting on the front porch while im doing my climate control... So I figured I will leave it til tomorrow and paint it black and blue!

    So... What do I use?
    How do I prime it?
    Clear coat?
    What brand paints/vinyl dye?
    Clean it with metho first?

Basically I was gonna use metho to clean it, then some plastic primer coats (2?)... followed by VHT Vinyl Dye (black and blue) coats... again how many?... do a few coats of clear as well...Will this work? Is it good enough?

Also any pics of peoples colour combinations would be sweet, where they have painted what parts etc....

    Thanks heaps in advance people

Ah sweet.. Did you clean the surface with anything special first or just give it a wipe?

Last time I cleaned my car INSIDE was september so she is a little dusty...

A semi gloss would look better imo. You want a bit of shine but not too much. Otherwise it will uumm.. look painted! I think painting interior trim looks crap, so if I was to go painting stuff I'd want it to look like it hasn't been painted. Know what I mean?

I'd say go alternating layers of gloss and matt black. I did that on my exterior window moulds (the ugly grey ones), and it came up just nice Cause too glossyis tacky, and too matt is just boring.

i hate painted dashes to be honost, apart from your center console vn2nv.. you rarely see one well done and they usually look botch, thats why i havnt painted mine but yeah you need plastic primer, paint and clear coat to do it properly, or gloss paint (has clear coat mixed in with it)

if you're gonna use vinyl dye, DONT stick plastic primer on it, otherwise it wont soak in.

you can use a white vinyl dye as a base to light vinyl dyes tho i think. but dont use a paint that isnt a dye as a base coat unless topcoat is the same

Arrr I started and I used a plastic primer... It seems ok though????

Im using VHT Vinyl Die Jet Black Gloss and the same blue I originally got for the centre console... however its not coming out the same on the dash parts as the centre console did. Perhaps the fibgreglass helped the finish.

Problem is I dont have enough blue to give it alot of sprays. I went to autobarn, Repco, Motoquipe and Supercheap and only one place had my blue in stock, and they only had 1 can of it... Im down to the A/C vents now and scratching to have enough. The blacks fine cause theres heaps of it at repco and stuff.

Just to clarify gloss doesn't have the clear mixed in it, it just has no/limited flattening agents.

ok theres a vynal paint called truflex that i got from bristol.. its vynal awning paint and is extremely flexable.. ive painted my dash 3 times now cause i was using **** from autobarn.. dont use a spraay can ever.. as long as you give your dash a massive rub back a massive wash it will come good.. removing the dash is easy, replacing it is a nightmare!the main wiring loom hooks onto the back of the dash and has to be put on the dash before u replace it! nightmare!!!!!
Don't blame me, It's that damn percadan..
If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain...
And now a word from our new sponsor.. Percadan? oh crap!
