Hi,
Is there any difference if I put a VR motor and Auto box into a VP? I know the auto box is a 4L60-E. Do I need to change the computer or add any other bits for it to work.
Gazza
yeah there are minor differences but the only thing you will need to do is leave the Cam sensor disconnected.
There were running changes in the later produced VPs that received VR engines minus the Cam sensor. There is a different harmonic balancer, front cover and Crank Angle Sensor. I think the flex plate was different too but not certain on that one.
It all still plugs up and runs the same though
The VR has a different Alternator and it has the thermostat houseing a little different with the hose coming off the front and not the side as in the VP/N.
It doesn't matter much though. The power steering pump is a bit different with the reseviour fitted to the radiator. If you get all that too you can fit it all up fine to your VP
EDIT>>>
Your VR gear box will need the VR computer and loom. It is electronic and the VN/VP is not. ie the VR computer tells it when to change gear.
You can use the engine but the gear box will be a pain.

OK, so what if I get the engine and gear box looms along with the computer & wire it into the car. Will that still work, I have a sparky mate who could do any alterations if need be?

If you get all the wiring harnesses for the box and the engine it should work just fine. Hope your sparky is a good mate! There may be some of the wiring to the dash that's a bit different too. Shouldn't be hard to work out.

hey m8. just letting you know that if you have a vp then vr engine will go straight in. the only thing different is the dip stick is at the front on a vr. the trans will also bolt in but the computer will have to be changed as the vr has electronic kick down and vp is cable. if you want to do the motor alone you will have to put the throttle body off your old engine on so your kick down cable will go on.
The differences I posted are already bolted to the motor so provided you get the front cover with it you will be fine
How about getting the loom and computer and engine and gearbox, just use the engine and sell the rest and put that toward getting your current gear box freshened up![]()
what happens what do you have to change to bolt a vr gearbox in to a vp engine
nothing, it all bolts straight in. You just can't run an electronic gear box from a VR useing the computer from a VP or VN.
can you run a vr gearbox in a vp if you use a vr computer or how else do you run a vr gearbox in a vp
