With the standard VQ/VP irs off set most late model holden rims will rub on the inner guards. With this conversion you get about an extra 15mm each side outwards.I has VT ss rims and they sat on the inner guards .I tried SV6 rims and there was less than a finger between the arm and tyre and about the same on the inner guard.I now have a heap of room and no need for spacers.

I've heard about changing the hubs to VR/VS ones, but never anything about the trailing arms.

I rekon it should just be posted in this section, as its really only applicable to people with VPs. A Sticky in here would be best.

Once you write it up, PM a mod with the link, and they can make it a sticky

Is my HSV "level ride" IRS different to a standard VP with IRS? The reason I ask is that the previous owner had 255 tyres under the arse & it didnt scrub(or maybe its just the offset of the rims).

What you will need is the rear trailing arms from either a VR/VS irs.It doesnt matter if its a 6 or 8.You will need the discs and drive shafts as well.
I will try and cover everything
1)jack up rear of car and put on stands.
    2)remove wheels
3)remove drive shaft using an 8mm allen key(i got a kingchrome one that fits on a ratchet and i saves heaps of time. You will have to put the hand brake on so the shaft wont move while undoing.
    4)undo swaybar 13mm
    5)remove spring
6)you will need to undo the metal brake line that goes from the arm to the flexible line that goes to the body(they are tight and best done with vice grips).
7)remove the spring that holds the hand brake cable to the hand brake and remove cable.
8)the arm should be now hanging by the two mounting pionts on the body.
use a 19mm socket and a spanner to undo the nut and bolts.
9)the arm should now be free to remove.

You need to use your original calipers, flex and metal brake lines,as the fittings may be different.
10)remove the calipers and brake lines from original arms as you will be putting them on the VR/VS arms.
11)fit these to the new arms.

The arms are now ready to be fitted using the same removal process in reverse.
12)use some low strength loctite on the hi tensile bolts for the drive shafts.
13)when you go to reconnect the hand brake cables you will find they will be too short so you will need to adjust them up near the transmission.(you will see what i mean)
14)the brakes will now need to be bled as there will be air in the system.
15)double check every thing is tight
If i have got you confused PM me and i will ring you to help.
    Thankyou.

If you have the original HSV VP rims then they will have the correct offset already.

I just realised my whole diff disc to disc is out of a VY, so i wont need them anyway.

You should make a new thread, or edit your first post with all that info, and then PM a mod to make this a sticky.

yeah i never even thought of it, til i read the write up i have.

Believe it or not, in 4 years its seen about 15 different sets of rims, i could never make up my mind. but i'll stick to the Granges now.

Adam69 is your car lowered, and do you have a camber kit? cause i think thats next on my list.
