Hi i have a series one VN berlina with a group A SS bodykit and hsv rims, it is a 3.8ltr v6 auto. I have lowered it with superlow kingsprings and it has: HM headers, 2.5' high flow ceramic cat, 2.5' high flow exhaust, SS tip, SS inductions cold air intake, K&N panel filter, memcal chip, 70mm polished throttle body & a shift kit.... im an apprentice mechanic so i get trade price on all my parts and i want to make my car go harder but im not sure where 2 start like a crow cam or rebuild kit??? what will make the most differance?? basicly just after some info from someone that has done a v6 before, anything will help. thnx
next step i'd say would be headwork a cam (check the crow site for grind ideas) and maybe rockers.
what's with the huge font?
How much do you want to spend? There are plenty of options like the 4.2L stroker kit, forced induction ect ect.
yeah, iv been meaning to ask, how much is forced induction, how big of a job it is, and can someone give me a rundown on how exactly it works, from my understading its similar in most ways to a supercharger...
If you do things righ people wont know you have done anything at all...
Forced induction is a term meaning any method of applying a positive pressure to the intake side of an engine, "forcing" more air in. A supercharger is one method of forced induction, as is a turbocharger. Each of those categories have many different sub types with their own particular differences, advantages and disadvantages. Some people also class NOS as being a type of forced induction, but in a pure sense it isn't, it's a chemical agent that increases the speed and temperature of combustion. Really more forced combustion than induction, but you can see where they're coming from I suppose.
So what year apprentice are you? Sounds like you're keen to learn anyway, If you're after more power I'd reccomend a cam, maybe some headwork too. This option will also give you some good experience pulling apart your motor and putting the bugger back together again. While it's pulled down you can also check out the condition of the bottom end and determine whether it needs a full rebuild or if it's in good nick. Afterwards you can decide your next step, whether it's going forced induction, building a fresh monster or whatever.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

ok, first off - tame that font man, thats massive. lol
anyway, id say your VN is already making some nice power with what you've done so far...maybe you should look at how to get that to the ground a bit better.
an lsd with some 3.7 or 3.9 diff gears would make a pretty big difference, thats where id start...and being a mechanic you could do it pretty damn cheap too. just go to a wreckers and pick up what you need than reco and install it yourself.
Quagmire: My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
im 2nd year now, i have rebuilt a few engines and modified a few cars as well but i have never done a holden v6 so wasnt sure what to do next, sry bout the font lol
i looked at the stroker kit from come racing but its abit to pricey for me and same with the cappa supercharger as im only an apprentice so i get **** pay, there is lots of diff mods for the ecotec engine but not for minei got a quote of $750 to shave and port and polish the heads and $550 for a ACL race series rebuild kit, would that be a good place to start??
put a 5ltr in it![]()

Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
haha yeh that was one of my thoughts but then i need a new gearbox, new ecu, new wireing looms, new tailshaft, new diff and it all adds up to much $$$$ to put even a stock 5ltr in it so i figured ill just work with what ive got
the diff seams like a good idea
yeh trust me its a bigger pain in the ass job than it seems(5ltr)
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
what putting in the 5ltr or doing up the v6???
swapping to a 5ltr...
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
rebuild with stage 2-3 crow cam + goodies, headwork, YT roller rockers.
opps just read it properly n seen the 5ltr in brackets lol
yeh i looked at the cam but im not sure what one to go, if i get the stage 4 will things start braking coz its to big?? will rods let go and stuff??
stage 3 sorry
seriously man, for the money it'll cost you - do the diff with some 3.9's or something! you'll thank me later.

you're not going to make a weapon out of it for uber-cheap...
I'd just make it a real fun car to drive, then once you have a bit more cash to spend, start worrying about making it a beast.
in my best recommendation you need (in this order)
- weight reduction - lose the kit, or if you don't want to lose the kit, do as much weight reduction as you can, the tar stuff on the floor under the carpet, the stuff in the boot, the rubber mats behind the pedals, the spare wheel & jack, the boot carpet, etc (free and very effective)
- LSD diff with 3.45 or 3.7 gears ($200-$400 if you can do the work yourself)
- manual gearbox ($600-$800 if you do the work yourself - the car won't necessarily go faster (or slower) but it will be a LOT more fun to drive)
- cam to suit your needs![]()
failing that go the forced induction route. the entry two choices are really the CRS supercharger kit, which you'll get on your car running well for about $1500-$2000 or so. You'll be looking at approx 140rwkw, with potential for up to about 180-190rwkw with lots more spent.
or you could go with the turbo kits on ebay, they go from $2800 for everything you need to bolt in and start cooking some tyres. I'd say minimum 150rwkw with this setup, with potential for like 230-240rwkw before you start buying bigger turbos etc, then the sky's the limit!
the standard series 1 vn is 137 standard so i should get alot more than that out of a supercharger or turbo.... i think i will start with the diff & a nice crow cam
Lukes talking in rwkw and a stock VN V6 makes about 100 rwkw
yea i read the vp comes out stock with 127kw, but tht was when they were in smick condition im guessing, 17 years down the track id say they've fallen down a bit in kw's yea
