has anyone had much trouble with 20% tint???
Nope, had it for 3 years, but I don't go to places where I'm likely to have trouble either.
anyone else with 20% could please say if they have had much trouble coz i am getting it in a couple of days n wanna no if it attracts cops
don't just think about cops but your insurance aswell 'cos if you hit something they could say you can't see properly with dark illegal tint! just a thought.
I went darkest legal on the sides, and 20% on the back. To be honest, I don't think I'd really need anything darkerI love how it looks.

I know someone who does it in Brisbane for around the $250 mark (I paid $260 for a strip & retint).
just stay on the legal side of things..
yes youre correct, stay legal,no hassles. I got 35% now so im happy LOL...
yeh i got 20% on back 35% on sides, havent had any trouble, the guys who did my tint reckon its the other windows too dark that really attract attention
Hey i'm new to the site, i was just wondering if its worth replaceing my engine or the part, cause i was driving along and all of a sudden some real bad noise came from the motor and i took it to a mechanic he said its the crankshaft rear bearing so yeah tell me what u think.
Welcome to the site, but this isnt the place to post that

As for the window tinting, I went darkest legal, I reckon its dark enough, adds that bit of class without going over the top. Plus yuo wont have to worry about getting any unwanted attention
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

The compliance rules are basically that AFTER 1/1/94 you can only have 35% tint. If you own a Pre 1994 car they cant prove when you got the tint put on so they cant defect you for it as your car complies.
I am getting 20% attached to my VN Berlina on Thursday on the coast. All good.
sweet as mines 92... i was gonna do it anyway... this saturday![]()
Hi all
I had 5% on an 84 XE falcon and **** it looked good! against the deep red that they came out in...and never got pelled up! but in saying that apparently the stipulation is if police cant make out the sillouetts of the ppl in the vehicle it's illegal!
hope this helps guy's and girls.
VIC regulations m8! And no i dont drive a ford anymore and never would again as long as my arse points to the ground!
M8 i got pulled up and only for the fact that i bought the vehicle out of a car yard like it! and the fact that it was prior to a certain year..i got away with it! but i asked them what the stipulation was as far as how dark you can go?
Now the legal limit now is 35% all states! but back then the stipulation was as long as a police officer could make out how many ppl were in the vehicle by their sillouhettes.
But now it's 35% on all windows of a private sedan, all states! 35% on the front windows of a commercial vehicle unless it's a van or bigger then you can have all windows behind the front doors as dark as you like!
Dont beleive me ring ya local main roads or registration place to find out for sure!
But i'm pretty sure i'm right!
So a COP who pulled you over told you that the Vic Regs are at their discretion ? dont think so ...
Anyway if you do a search on google for window tinting regulations you will find the regs applied from the 1/1/1994 whoever asked that question.
As 2greedy said he got off because the car was before a ceretain date which basically backs up what I said.
Also my 1986 Bluebird TRX had mega dark 20% and it went over QLD transport in 1995/96 without an issue.
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...i/vsi_dl1.html
Page 3 - Passenger Vehicles - they have changed the rule from 1st August 1994 - you will see it says basically that cars before then do not have to comply with the 35% LTV if they were already tinted. End of story.
No cop will be able to get you for 20% on a car manufactured for 1994. If you have like 5% then more fool you but 20% they wouldnt try it on because they would just be making it up.

This has already been discussed on this site in the general section..
The law in NSW states (and from memory NSW is the ONLY state which says this, all other states just ask for minimum 35% no matter what age the vehicle is):
Vehicles First Registered:
- On or after 1 August 1994, minimum 35% VLT.
- Before 1 August 1994, minimum 35% VLT unless a darker tint is already fitted.
Now back in those days, tint was simply black dyed, there was no metalized versions available, or nothing of todays quality. And if the tint is bubbled, faded or damaged or has deterioratd in a way which could effect drivers vision the tint is illegal. Very few if any cars remain with window tint from before 1994 that is still legal or still fitted to their car, and the ONUS OF PROOF is on you, to be able to PROVE that your window tint was fitted BEFORE the 1st of August 1994. Otherwise, it is defectable.
Also, seeing as you seem to live in QLD, you are better off going by YOUR states guidelines which have NO MENTION of the 1994 date. It is 35% no matter what year your car was built.
Vehicles with non-tinted glass
Automotive tinting material which has a light transmittance factor of not less than 35 per cent (T35) may be used on any non-tinted side or rear window.
Vehicle with factory-tinted glass
Most new vehicles are fitted with tinted window glass. This tint is very light and glass may at first appear to be clear. To check, hold a piece of white paper on the opposite side of the glass. If it has a slight grey, green or brown colour when viewed through the glass, the glass is tinted.
Special grades of film may be applied to factory tinted windows. When these films are applied to tinted glass, the combination of tints must still allow 35 per cent light transmittance.
20% is fine. just be good and u wont get hassled
