Talking HSV VT GTS 220i 355 stoker engine into a 5l VN Calias

    Hi Guys,
Some of you will know me some would of heard about me. Im Hozy's older brother.

Any how. My 5L has finaly given up the ghost after 408,000 kmh. Not bad for the old girl. Needs a rebuild. Still driveable but blowing smoke.

So the decision was rebuild or new car or new engine.
Well as you have guessed from the title ive got a new engine that im picking up on monday.

Engine is a HSV VT GTS 220i roller cam 355 stroker. with only 100,000 kmh on clock.

Question is is it a straight bolt on in terms of wiring?
Can i use my wiring harnes and computer?

    Any information appreciated.

Computer and loom will have to be changed. Well maybe not have to, but it would definitely be the best way to do it. The VT ran sequential injection which means the dizzy wiring is slightly different, and the injector wiring is different.

If you really want to keep your original loom and computer, you'll have to replace the dizzy with a VN-VS one. The one off your current 5L should do nicely. You'll lose the sequential injection, but it's really no big deal, it was mainly an emissions thing anyway apparently.

im pretty sure you will have to change the computer to the vt one. as the speedo signal goes through the ecu on a vt. you may be able to buy an adapter so you can keep the vn computer.

Also the VT runs a MAF, so if you will either have to have it MAF-less tuned (don't know anyone who has ever done one) or setup the VT ECU.

It'd be easy enough to go back to a MAP setup wouldn't it? Just run a VR stroker tune or something similar.

Well not necessarily, no logical reason why you couldn't get away with converting it back to a MAP. Valid point though, these things never work as they should and the best results would definitely be gained using the VT loom and computer, be a good opportunity to get everything looking nice and neat as well.

Yep.. Running like a slug on a turtles back at the moment... Really need to pick up a VN Knock sensor an finish the wiring so I can use Dr.Bob's tune... For the instant gain.

In all reality, Not many people thought running an ecotec from a Delco808 was possible but it was, In reality, wouldn't it be possible to adjust cam lift/lobe spec's in the tune etc, put on a 5ltr dizzy etc. run it like a non-sequential 304 but just with a tune for say Stroker version?

The only difference between the VS Bank 215i & VT 220i is sequential....

Oh well, Will still be sweet

    Cheers
    MaT

Biting the Bullet & Will attempt knock sensor install 2morrow... Hope I can get it done, I need this thing running properly...

Sluggish down low(almost floods an dies), Crazy midrange(traction loss no matter what), Pinging up high(NASTY).

I am planning on doing this upgrade to my VP so would be keen to hear how you get on especially with the instrument cluster and the gear box fitting.

Should be exactly the same. they're all basically the same Holden aussie V8 block with minor revisions over time.
