howdy if you went to dissconnect the battery in a vn-vs would the computer loose its memory or would you only loose the radio security code.
how long can you have the battery dissconnected before the ECU looses its memory if it does and is it the same for all modes and how do you keep the memory in the ecu while changing the battery.
i look foward to your reply
i think its 10 seconds for the iac to reset so probly about that maybe less..

you can change it without resetting the computer. My mechanic did it by connecting some leads to a spare battery and the terminals on the car while he changed over the battery.
Hook up a 9 volt battery to a cigarette lighter plug and plug it in. There is enough power in the 9v battery to keep your radio memory intact. It doesn't matter about the ECU as that will relearn its settings after about a 10 min drive.
hey there.... my 2c worth - the ECU wont lose its memory when you remove the car battery.... it has an EPROM plugged into it (which does not need power to retain its memory).
The IAC will need resetting after a batt change - but it will regain that setting by itself after a short drive.
personally i would not try the 9v battery trick... if you forgot to remove it when you install the new battery in the car you may destroy something....if you dont have the code for the radio Holden may be able to help...
cheers pete
Standard piece of equipment at a battery shop mate. If you ask for a memory saver so you won't lose your radio settings, thats exactly what they have. And if you leave it in it doesn't matter as the car plug has a 12v feed, its higher that the 9v battery and can't backfeed anyway. 3v difference won't do anything to the 9v battery either. Also, every autoparts shop has this type of memory saver.
